King Frederik X is the new King of Denmark following the abdication of his mother, Queen Margrethe II. Since 2004, he has been married to Mary Donaldson (now Queen Mary) and has four children: Crown Prince Christian, Princess Isabella, Prince Vincent, and Princess Josephine. The King also has a younger brother, Prince Joachim, who has been married to his second wife, Princess Marie, since 2008.
Frederik X also has three nephews and a niece through Joachim: Counts Nikolai, Felix and Henrik and Countess Athena.
The King became the heir to the Danish throne when he was just four years old when his mother, the then-Princess Margrethe, ascended the throne after the death of her father, King Frederik IX for whom Frederik X is named after.
Frederik X Meets Mary And Creates The Royal Run
Frederik X met Mary at the Slip Inn in Sydney during the 2000 Olympics. Some rumours claim that the now Queen Mary was hunting him—a fact we find utterly ridiculous. During his time in the Danish armed forces, Frederik was known as Pingo due to his wetsuit filling with water and making him move like a penguin. He also has roles within each arm of the armed forces.
The King founded the Royal Run, an annual event that sees people from all over Denmark run. Initially, he created a project for his 50th birthday, but it proved so popular that it became a yearly event. Though, it had to be cancelled in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Though, it has run every year since Frederik turned 50.
