Who Is Prince Nikolai Of Denmark?

Prince Nikolai

Prince Nikolai of Denmark is the eldest child of Prince Joachim of Denmark and his first wife, Alexandra Manley. He is also the eldest grandchild of Queen Margrethe II of Denmark and her late husband, Prince Henrik. His uncle is King (then Crown Prince) Frederik, and his cousins are Princes Christian and Vincent and Princesses Isabella and Josephine. Nikolai is also Crown Princess Mary‘s nephew and Princess Marie’s eldest stepson.

At the beginning of 2023, he was stripped of his princely title and issued the title of Count, alongside his younger brother, Felix, younger half-brother, Henrik and younger half-sister, Athena. Queen Margrethe II wished to slim down the Danish monarchy by limiting the number of family members with princely titles.

Prince Nikolai is now Count Nikolai of Monpezat, a nod to his late grandfather. His siblings all hold the title as well. What’s more, Nikolai is a model who was signed under his princely title. Now, he is signed under Count Nikolai of Monpezat.

He was also a pageboy at his uncle and aunt’s 2004 wedding.

Prince Nikolai’s Reaction To Having Title Stripped

It is said that when Queen Margrethe announced that her youngest son’s children would be stripped of their princely titles, Nikolai and his siblings were upset over the decision. It also didn’t go over well with Joachim, Alexandra and Marie, who all cited that their children had lost their identities as all they had known were being princes or princesses.

The decision also didn’t go over in the Danish media, as the Queen was criticised for taking such an action. She even stated later than she regretted it. Kinda.
