Who Are The Biggest, Most Important Harry Potter Characters?

Harry Potter characters

Everyone has their favourite Harry Potter characters. From the golden trio to the villains, there is always an air of “who is the biggest, most important” of them all?

Well, that’s what we’ll explore here. Without many of these Harry Potter characters, the storylines would not have played out as they should have.

The Golden Trio

Harry James Potter was the only child of Lily and James Potter. After the death of his parents on Halloween 1981, he went to live with his muggle aunt and uncle. Without him, the story would be totally pointless.

Ronald Bilius Weasley is Harry’s best friend. The sixth of seven children and the youngest son of Arthur and Molly Weasley becomes acquainted with Harry on Platforms 9 and 10 of King’s Cross Station when his mother explains to Harry how to get onto Platform 9 3/4. They later sit together on the train. Thanks to Ron, Harry would never have met Ginny, Ron’s only sister who would later become his wife and the mother of his three children.

Hermione Jean Granger is the only girl of the trio and one who has to keep Harry and Ron from getting themselves killed. Born to Muggle parents, Hermione is the smartest witch in Harry and Ron’s year at Hogwarts.

Parental figures

Rubeus Hagrid was the first magical individual Harry Potter means that he remembers. Having dropped Harry off at the Dursleys when he was no more than a year old, Hagrid had a soft spot for his young friend and is the first to introduce him to the wizarding world. He is also one of the final mentions in the series as Ginny Potter tells her eldest son James to send the half-giant her and Harry’s love when he saw him next.

Sirius Black is Harry’s godfather. The best friend of James Potter, Sirius, was arrested and sent to Azkaban for murders he never committed. Once he goes on the run, he takes shelter in his old family home and often gives Harry advice when he needs it. His death at the hands of his cousin Bellatrix Lestrange devastates Harry. Years later, Harry and Ginny give their eldest son the middle name Sirius.

Remus Lupin is another close friend of Harry’s parents. He watched out for Harry during his third year while trying to hide that he was a werewolf.

Molly Weasley is the matriarch of the Weasley family and Ron’s mother. She treats Harry like one of her own and becomes like a surrogate mother to him.

Villains

Tom Riddle, or Lord Voldemort, is the biggest bad of the Harry Potter characters. Harry ruined his quest for world domination as a baby because he feared a prophecy that he would die because of a boy born at the end of July.

Bellatrix Lestrange is a devoted follower of Voldemort and Sirius’ cousin, who also killed him. She later becomes the mother of Voldemort’s daughter, Delphine. She is the sister of Andromeda Tonks and Narcissa Malfoy and was killed by Molly Weasley after she almost kills Molly’s daughter, Ginny.

Draco Malfoy is Harry, Ron and Hermione’s lead school bully and later an ally in their adult years. A thorn in their sides since their first day at Hogwarts, Malfoy is the son of Death Eater Lucius Malfoy and Sirius’ cousin, Narcissa. He is the nephew of Andromeda and Bellatrix and the cousin of Andromeda’s daughter, Nymphadora Tonks. His son, Scorpius, later becomes the best friend of Harry and Ginny’s youngest son, Albus.
