Kim Possible: Was Ron’s Religious Preference Retconned?

Ron

It’s memory lane jumping time! First stop, Kim Possible.

Kim Possible was a staple in our childhood. Who didn’t love the adventures of the teenage cheerleader and sidekick, Ron Stoppable?

We were watching the “season premiere”, and we noticed something we hadn’t before.

The episode centres on Kim and Ron protecting a video game factory in Japan from Drakken and Shego.

Ron mentions the villains might be after the hottest video game of the holiday.

Almost instantly, Ron exclaims, “Drakken’s going to steal Christmas!” Kim rebuffs this, saying Drakken wants to rule the world.

As they enter the factory, the friends argue before Kim gives up.

The reason we bring this up is that in later episodes, Ron is to be Jewish.

So, that begs the question of whether Ron’s religious preference retconned?

When Ron’s Religion Change Is Introduced

Given the way the show got released, it’s hard to determine where in the story the retcon happened.
When the series was broadcast, the episodes aired out of sequence. They were placed on Disney+ in another order beginning with “Crush”. Chronologically, this is the 13th episode.

From what we can find, Ron’s religious retcon came in the episode, “Ron the Man”. This is part of Season 1 as the 20th episode.

If you look online, the first episode of the series is “Tick-Tick-Tick”, which was produced as the original premiere.

What Could’ve Happened?

The retcon could’ve happened when the episodes were written. It could’ve been decided when “Ron the Man” was being produced that Ron would be Jewish.

Not to mention, it’s established in-universe that Ron’s dad is Jewish. However, it is unclear whether his mother is of the same faith.

From research we’ve done, a child who is Jewish becomes so through their mother. One example of this is the Arrowverse’s Kane family.

In conclusion, the Christmas comment probably got thrown in they didn’t know what his mother’s religion was going to be.
