Another day, another clip for Avatar: The Way of Water. During an interview with Sigourney Weaver on GMA, Kiri was shown talking to Jake about her ability to sense Eywa, the goddess that the Na’vi worshipped. Now, the context of why she is upset is unclear, but something has spooked her to the point of tears.

Sigourney has said previously that Kiri isn’t a warrior. Given what we know about her, it appears that her stance is more spiritual, like her adoptive grandmother, Mo’at. However, it would seem that Kiri’s connection to Eywa is more personal. This might be because of her biological mother; Grace Augustine’s consciousness now resides with the deity.

Kiri And Her Personal Connection

Kiri’s connection to Eywa might also be Grace reaching out to her from the spiritual plane. We’re aware that Kiri will know about Grace because a comic series depicts her and Spider sneaking into Hell’s Gate to watch old video logs. Also, a still from The Way of Water shows Kiri watching a video log of Grace with Norm in the background. (see our feature image).

Whether Kiri is aware that Grace is her mother is another question. Though we don’t believe this would be something Jake and Neytiri would keep from her. It has been said that Kiri is closer to Jake because of his close bond with Grace when she was alive.

Jake is much easier to talk to when Neytiri is in Kiri’s eyes. However, Neytiri might be a little intimidating to Kiri, given her feelings towards humans. Though she did fall in love with Jake, their children have some human DNA, and she raised a human with Spider. However, even producer Jon Landau has said that Neytiri struggles to accept Spider because of his mother’s role in the assault on the Tree of Souls.
