Jennie-Lynn Hayden returns to the fold in her search for her twin brother, Todd Rice. As Courtney continues to deal with her estrangement from the JSA, the narrative shifts focus to Beth’s Operation: Blackout Bomb. After the revelation last episode that cameras are watching Blue Valley, the JSA set out to take out the devices. (Wait until Jordan returns!) Let’s not forget the tension with the JSA.

Despite not being in the episode, we still hear Sylvester’s voice over the comms. Rick, Jakeem and Zeek play board games at the Pit Stop. Yolanda is working the late shift at the diner when her mother rings, having learned that she hasn’t been working the late shift when she’s been on JSA duty. Beth sits in her room, listening to Sylvester’s instructions. Meanwhile, the Whitmore-Dugans are having the most uncomfortable dinner.

After Beth breaks through the power company’s firewall, she cuts the power to Blue Valley, throwing everything into darkness. This gives the JSA time to find the cameras. We get the reintroduction to Mister Bones and Nurse Love in this episode, too but they’re not the main focus.

Six Months Earlier And The Shade Goes To Courtney For Help With Jennie

The episode jumps back to when Green Lantern’s daughter was introduced in Season 2. However, an extra component is added where we see what Todd was doing simultaneously. After sneaking into a restaurant, Todd and his boyfriend, Danny, want a regular meal.

Danny points out that it’s Todd’s birthday, and he deserves a good meal. It appears, too, that he’s been told about Jennie. What’s more, we also see a flashback to when the Scott twins were separated after their father’s death.

In Blue Valley, Courtney and Pat search the basement for the camera. Knowing Courtney than she realises, Pat asks if she’s okay, telling her that she can talk to him about anything. Finally, she gives in, telling him she’d still be on the team if she had just told them about helping Cameron. With Cindy gone, the team should be functioning, but it’s not, considering they probably don’t want her back.

Pat assures her that the team doesn’t think the way she thinks. He reminds her that she is the reason they’re the type of people they are now. Suddenly, the Shade shows up and pulls Courtney to a new location, Pat following behind.

Reuniting With Jennie And Todd

They get pulled to a basement where they’re reunited with Jennie. But, as it turns out, Jennie-Lynn and Dickie already know each other. What’s more, Jennie knows Shade had a role in killing her father, Alan Scott.

As Jennie and Shade bicker, Courtney and Pat question where they are, they’re told that they’re at the Helix Institute. Father and daughter remember this is where they were looking for Todd. Jennie reveals she found her brother and that he’s above them.

The question then comes around to why the Shade is involved. Jennie reveals that her connection with the Shade started before they defeated Eclipso. She and Beth had gone to Blue Valley High, where the JSA had fought Injustice Unlimited in the cafeteria. Leaning down, Jennie’s green lantern ring, unbeknownst to her had absorbed some of the black ooze left on the floor.

This ooze was linked to the shadowlands and by defaulted, to the Shade and it tried them together. The best part about Dickie and Jade in this episode is that they’re constantly at each other’s throats which is funny to watch. As we mentioned earlier, Jennie knows about the Shade’s role in her dad’s death and even calls him out on it. What’s more is he refers to her as stubborn, a sentiment that she hates.

Yolanda’s Difficult Time

While Yolanda doesn’t play a massive role in the episode, we’re still seeing the fallout of her relationship with her family. While her father, Juan, is referenced, the main member of her family that seems to have a recurring presence is her mother, Maria.

Maria discovers via the waitress, Maria that Yolanda hasn’t been working late shifts when she said she was. This puts Yolanda in hot water as she is caught sneaking back into the house. Her mother accuses her of taking drugs and doing things she shouldn’t. She then orders her daughter to hand over her phone.

Yolanda, realising that she needs stand up for herself, refuses to do so. This leads her mother to give her an ultimatum; hand over her phone or get kicked out of the house. Because she defies her mum, Yolanda is expelled from the house. She packs a bag and heads to the Whitmore-Dugan house where the power is still out after Beth shut it down earlier in the episode.

Barbara and Mike cut their search for Pat and Courtney short when they hear the knock at the door. Yolanda tells them that she while she and Courtney aren’t on the best terms, the house was the only place she could go. Barb embraces her and even Mike, who we don’t se emotional too often, is worried about her and they welcome her.

Beth Senses Something’s Off With Rick

During the search at the school for the cameras, Rick starts showing off his newfound strength. When Beth calls him out on it, he tells her that he removed the limiter on the hourglass so he’s strong 24/7. The conversation turns briefly to Courtney leaving the team.

Rick says he doubts Courtney wants to be Stargirl anymore, indirectly taking a swipe at her relationship with Cameron. Beth instantly jumps in and says that Courtney would never give up being Stargirl as she values her role as their leader too much. Rick, to his credit, softens at her comment.

It’s also clear that Beth is uneasy with Rick abusing the hourglass’ power, but she chooses not to say anything. This was a smart move on her part. She doesn’t want to push it with him, knowing he’ll find some excuse to dismiss her concerns.

Todd and Jennie Reunite

To end the article, Todd and Jennie reunite when Swift, Courtney, and Pat find him strapped to a table with his powers on the fritz. Todd doesn’t recognise his sister as its been years since they’ve seen each other. Jennie tries to untether him from the table but he tells her not to as he will destroy the world if she does.

Jennie ignores his pleas and unties him and due to his ties to the Shadowlands, he knocks Dickie and Pat there.
