Stargirl: Tensions Arise Between Courtney And The JSA Because Of Her Relationship With Cameron

Camney has become a sore point and hasn’t even been 24 hours (in-universe). If one association can cause conflict, then Courtney had better choose carefully because her relationships are on the line. Will she choose between her team or her new boyfriend? The tensions are high between everyone, and Cameron is the common denominator.

Since Mike killed Jordan at the end of Season 1, Courtney’s main struggle whenever she and Cameron are in the same space is telling him what her brother did. However, their connection has become so close that it has blossomed into a romance that those around them aren’t going to like.

The Father Debate

While Camney is now a thing, the JSA and the Mahkents are now in a massive bind. While Cindy has taken the high road, she has told Courtney one thing; Cameron can’t know what happened with Mike and Jordan. She points out that the last thing Court needs is for Cameron to be in the same position the two of them [Courtney and Cindy] are with their fathers.

Courtney realises Cindy fits as her own dad was a dropkick, and Dragon King used his daughter as a lab rat. Jordan genuinely loved his son and wanted to make the world better for him. However, the way he went about it wasn’t right.

Defending The Boyfriend

That brings us to the JSA as a whole, sans Cindy. They don’t want Camney to happen. Even Beth, who is usually open-minded, is deadset against it. Rick and Cameron get into an argument, only for Courtney to call him out. Once Cam has left, Courtney rounds on Yolanda, who tries to compare him to his father. Uncharacteristically, Courtney storms off, clearly upset. She has every right to be upset. Her friends call out her boyfriend because of something he can’t help, i.e., having an evil father.

The only person that seems to be on Courtney’s side is Sylvester, who tells Yolanda, Rick and Beth about ‘sides’; there are no sides to superhero teams. Picking a side is what got the Golden Age JSA killed when they chose to kill Bruce Gordon. This brings the team thinking.

Courtney’s pain that her friends can’t be on her side is beginning to weigh on her. The last thing she wants is to choose between her friends and her boyfriend. So what’s she supposed to do? Also, can Pat be more adorable? When Courtney comes home at the beginning of the episode after having kissed Cameron twice on the same night, he can’t figure out why she has a dopey smile. The same thing continues the following day when she mistakes omelettes for waffles when she all but rushes out the door.

Pat Enters Denial Dad Mode

However, at lunch with Barbara, she makes him realise their daughter is crushing on someone. She advises that Courtney will tell them when she’s ready. This is when the Crocks show up; we’re not going over that here. If ever.

Anyway, Courtney and Cameron have been so entrenched in each other that even Sofus and Lily begin to notice. While they only appear at the end of the episode, they’re far from happy. Next week’s episode looks like there will be an intervention, as we’ve already predicted. The promo images hint at this, too, as seen on the Stargirl Wiki page for episode 6.

The Splintering Of The JSA

If it’s not evident already, the strain with the JSA has never been more apparent. First, the Cindy situation, and now, everything is going on with Camney. It’s just nonstop drama, and Rick’s swipes at Cameron aren’t helping. Also, Yolanda and Courtney’s close bond has disappeared due to her comparing Cameron with Jordan. So it’s no wonder Courtney is upset.

Yolanda and Rick are in no position to judge anyone. Rick has been considering Sylvester due to his temper, and Courtney takes issue with his argument with Cameron. Sylvester is a legitimate problem, as he has a habit of exploding at every slight. The Yolanda thing is even more of a headache because she should know how it feels to be judged. Instead, her parents are considering her for what she has done in the past.

Cindy Successfully Baits Cameron Into Revealing His Powers And Where Camney Goes From Here

Speaking of past actions, when Cindy tries to bait Cameron into showing her his powers, she mentions something interesting. She brings up an alleged incident that happened when they were young. He was supposed to go to some art camp, but it ended up being some “institution.” From what is implied, this occurred after Christine died when Cameron was eight.

Fans have speculated that Lily and Sofus could be working for Helix. Why? We have no idea. Another interesting point was in an interview, Hunter [Sansone] mentioned that Cameron went to boarding school. This hasn’t been referenced in the show and whether the boarding school thing and Helix are the same is anyone’s guess.

Another point that needs to be addressed here is that Cindy goes to Courtney with the information about Cameron, but little does she realise Court already knows. So now, the next episode will be interesting because Cindy tells Yolanda, Rick, and perhaps Beth what Courtney has been doing. Also, we hear Yolanda say, “Love makes you do crazy things.” We’ll go over this in another post, but the animosity between the JSA and Cameron will only worsen.

Courtney’s desire to stand by Cameron will push the JSA to the point where they will force her into doing something she doesn’t want. Again, we’ll go over this in another post, but when push comes to shove, it will only end in heartbreak and destruction.
