What Happened To Rotta The Huttlet?

The disappearance of Rotta the Huttlet is still a mystery – Star Wars: The Clone Wars gave us some memorable characters, but most forget about Jabba the Hutt’s son, Rotta. The little Hutt was the main focus of The Clone Wars film, where he is kidnapped by Count Dooku and almost murdered by his assassin, Asajj Ventress.

Newly-minted Jedi Knight Anakin Skywalker and his new Padawan learner, Ahsoka Tano, are assigned to find Rotta and return him to his father. However, the mission becomes a race against time as Ventress is hunting them on the orders of her master. Later, Senator Padmé Amidala, Anakin’s wife, discovers that Dooku planned on having the little Hutt killed and wanted to frame her husband or rather, the Jedi, for it.

She learns that Ziro, Jabba’s uncle, was in cahoots with Dooku and wants a war between his nephew and the Jedi. He attempted to kill Amidala to prevent his part in the plan from being uncovered. However, she uses reverse psychology on her battle droid guards to free herself.

Once Rotta is back with his father, Jabba still wants the Jedi dead. However, Padmé contacts him, saying Ziro and Dooku, not Anakin and Ahsoka, abducted the baby. The Huttlet has a fleeting cameo in the episode, ‘Sphere of Influence’. He is mentioned for the final time in ‘The Hunt for Ziro.’

So, what happened to him after this?

Could He Have Died?

A lot of YouTubers have asked this same question. While there are many videos on it, we’re going to cover what Alex of Star Wars Explained has suggested. He has said that a Legends book about Darth Maul mentions that Jabba sent his son to safety. Alex also mentions a book about Zorba the Hutt, Jabba’s father in Legends; it says that Jabba had no children. However, this novel was released before Rotta was created, 16 years before The Clone Wars movie was conceptualised.

We’ve seen multiple people say that Rotta died at some point. That’s true too, but we cannot say for sure until we have a concrete answer. Could Rotta appear in a short story in the future? We sure hope so, as we love that little slug!
