The Queen’s Eight Grandchildren To Stand Vigil

grandchildren

The Queen’s grandchildren will stand vigil. The Daily Mail reports that all eight of Her Majesty’s grandchildren will stand guard over their grandmother’s coffin at Westminster Hall. Peter Phillips, Zara Tindall, William The Prince of Wales, Prince Harry, Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie and Lady Louise and James Viscount Severn will come together to honour the woman they affectionately called “grannie.”

According to the DM, the grandchildren will participate in a vigil, similar to the Vigil of the Princes. The event was recently completed by King Charles, the Princess Royal, The Duke of York and The Earl of Wessex. The event will happen on Saturday, preceded by another Vigil of the Princes at Westminster Hall on Friday.

Prince Harry will wear his military uniform. This is a reverse decision that saw him banned from wearing it. However, it is unclear if he will only do it for just one event or for the funeral as well. While it is some people’s belief that he should not be wearing it, it was the king’s decision. It is likely what his grandmother wanted for him.

The Source Of Contention

The Duke of Sussex has not worn military dress since he left the UK in March 2020 to live in the US. Prince Andrew has been banned from wearing his naval uniform in previous parts of the mourning for his mother. However, he will be permitted to wear his uniform for the Friday vigil alongside his three siblings.

The issue of uniforms has been a contentious one for both dukes. They both threw tantrums last year before the funeral of Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh. They were told they were prohibited from wearing them due to their positions as disgraced, exiled and non-working royals. Her Majesty The Queen had to tell everyone that NO ONE would be wearing military uniform.
