3 More Royal Love Stories That Are NOT Harry And Meghan

royal love stories, William, Catherine

We had a great response to our previous royal love stories post, so we thought we’d do a second one. Okay, so the three we’ve picked for this one are William and Catherine, Crown Prince Frederick And Crown Princess Mary and Queen Rania and King Abdullah.

If this royal love stories post performs as well as the previous one, we’ll do a third. We’ve had a ton of fun discussing these relationships and showing that the Sussexes do NOT have a love story for the ages as they claim.

1. Prince William And Catherine Middleton

Unlike the mess that would occur in Prince Harry’s 18-month courtship with Meghan Markle before their May 2018 wedding, Prince William did the right thing. He waited several years before proposing to his longtime love, Catherine Middleton.

The pair met at Saint Andrew’s University in Scotland. They started as friends as they lived with a friend in a flat. The friendship later became a romance. Like William’s late mother, Princess Diana, Catherine was hounded by the paparazzi. On her 25th birthday, the paps waited for her to leave her flat before she drove to work.

William and Catherine broke up for a few months when the situation worsened. During that time, Catherine was seen out with her sister, Pippa. However, the former couple got back together after some time apart. In the years since Catherine and William said it was a trying time for them, but it made them stronger.

In 2010, during a trip to Kenya, William proposed with the full blessing of Kate’s dad, Michael. He proposed with his mother’s engagement ring. They married on April 29, 2011, becoming the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge. In 2013, they welcomed their first child, a son, Prince George. Princess Charlotte was born in 2015; boss baby Prince Louis was born in 2018.

Upon Her Majesty The Queen’s death in September 2022, William and Catherine became the Prince and Princess of Wales on the decree of King Charles III.

2. Crown Prince Frederik (Now King) And Mary Donaldson

It’s not every day that an Australian marries royalty. In 2004, Mary Donaldson married Crown Prince Frederik of Denmark. They met at the Sydney 2000 Olympics at the Slip Inn. Frederik was at the games with his brother, Prince Joachim, and he was familiar with Mary’s flatmate, the Prince of Asturias (now King Felipe VI of Spain). Also in attendance were Princess Märtha Louise of Norway and Prince Nikolaos of Greece and Denmark, a cousin of Frederik and Joachim.

Mary did not know that Frederik was the Crown Prince of Denmark until after they met, as their friends chose not to tell her until later.

For a year, Mary and Frederik’s relationship was kept private until it hit the press. Upon their 2004 wedding, Mary became the Crown Princess of Denmark. She moved to Denmark and went about learning the Danish language.

The Birth Of Four Children

In 2005, Mary and Frederik welcomed their son Prince Christian. 2007 saw the birth of Princess Isabella, while twins Prince Vincent and Princess Josephine were born in 2011.

During an interview (in Danish with English subtitles), Mary’s four children joked that they tease their mother as she speaks Danish with an Australian accent.

Mary is also a godmother to multiple royal children, including Princess Estelle of Sweden, named after her. She is also a godparent to her youngest nephew, the former Prince Henrik (now Count Henrik).

Also, Mary is known to share a lot of similarities with Catherine, the Princess of Wales, when it comes to her charity.

3. King Abdullah And Queen Rania

The final of our second lot of royal love stories is that of King Abdullah and Queen Rania of Jordan. We’ve spoken a lot about the Jordanian royal family recently due to two of their children getting married this year alone.

Abdullah (then Prince Abdullah) met Rania Al-Yassin during a dinner organised by his sister Princess Aisha in January 1993. After just two months of dating, Abdullah and Rania became engaged, and their wedding took place in June 1993. A year later, in June 1994, they welcomed their son Hussein. Their eldest daughter Princess Iman was born in 1996, Princess Salma was born in 2000, and their youngest son Prince Hamzah was born in 2005.

Upon their first meeting, Rania was working for Apple.

A New King Of Jordan

King Hussein, Abdullah’s father, died in 1999, making Abdullah the new king. At the time, Rania was the youngest queen in the world, as she was only 29. Abdullah was 37.

In 2023, Abdullah and Rania celebrated 30 years of marriage while their eldest children, Hussein and Iman, married their partners. It has been evident that they are very accepting of their son-in-law, Jameel and daughter-in-law, Rajwa and are seen to be close to both of them.

Rania even spoke at Rajwa’s henna party, saying she had come to see the future Queen of Jordan as one of her daughters. She is also very active on Instagram, even sharing portraits of her children and showing her deep love for her charity work, which includes women’s rights.
