The favourite daughter of Athena, Annabeth, started attending Camp Half-Blood when she was seven. She had run away from home after becoming tense between her and her mortal family due to being a half-blood. She was constantly the target of monster attacks. This upset her stepmother, who had twins sons, Matthew and Bobby, with Annabeth’s dad, Frederick.
The trio were then met by Grover Underwood, a satyr tasked with getting them to Camp Half-Blood. However, as they crossed over Half-Blood Hill, monsters attacked them. Thalia gave up her life to protect her friends. As she lay dying, Zeus turned her into a tree. The tree reminded her of her sacrifice, especially to her friends.
Five years later, Annabeth is one of the longest-serving campers, having been a year-rounder for those five years. When Percy arrived at Camp, Annabeth was still estranged from her mortal family. She has dreams of being an architect; something comes true after the Battle of Manhattan.
Phobias And Percy Visits The Chase Family
Given her mother was Athena, Annabeth was deathly afraid of spiders, as evident during her first quest with Percy and Grover when they end up stuck in a trap set up by Hephaestus to catch Ares and Aphrodite. Tiny spiders were used as part of the trap, and Annabeth panics, shrieking at the top of her lungs, according to Percy.
Over the course of her adventures with Percy, Annabeth starts to realise that perhaps she should make up with her mortal family. We know her stepmother is somewhat remorseful as Percy, Zoë Nightshade, and Thalia visit the Chases after Annabeth goes missing. She asks Percy to tell Annabeth once they find her that, she will always have a home with her, her dad and her brothers.
Upon meeting her and Frederick, Percy sees that Annabeth’s description of them is inaccurate and that they’re charming people.
Over time, it becomes clear that Annabeth has a crush on Percy, which he is oblivious to. On Percy’s sixteenth birthday, after they’ve survived the Battle of Manhattan, Annabeth and Percy kiss twice at Camp. The second one is Percy’s favourite of the two as their campmates throw them into the lake, and he dubs the kiss the best underwater kiss ever.
A couple of months into dating, Percy suddenly goes missing, much to Annabeth’s distress. During this time, she leans heavily on Sally, Percy’s mother. She eventually finds him at the Roman demigod camp, Camp Jupiter.
Annabeth becomes one of the seven demigods in the prophecy at the end of The Last Olympian. The other demigods include:
- Percy (son of Poseidon, Greek)
- Hazel Levesque (daughter of Pluto, Roman)
- Frank Zhang (son of Mars, Roman)
- Piper McLean (daughter of Aphrodite, Greek)
- Leo Valdez (son of Hephaestus, Geek)
- Jason Grace (son of Jupiter, Roman)
During the Mark of Athena, the daughter of Athena is forced to relive some of her more painful memories while searching for her mother’s missing statue. At the end of the story, she plunges into Tartarus, and Percy goes with her, showing his commitment and love for her. Moreover, on their way down into Tartarus, Annabeth confesses that she loves him.
The trek through Tartarus is challenging for Percabeth as no one has walked through the place before to get to the Doors of Death so they can get out. They rise through the challenge, supporting each other and proving they’re devoted to the future they both want.
