What The Lucasfilm Showcase Revealed At Star Wars Celebration Europe 2023

Lucasfilm Showcase

Welcome Star Wars fans to the first post for Star Wars Celebration Europe 2023! This first one will focus on the Lucasfilm Showcase highlights and reveals that drop during the panel. The coverage is coming from the live blog from Bespin Bulletin, as they have people in the room, as the panel isn’t being streamed live on YouTube.

Rumours have been floating around recently about titles and trailers being unveiled for films and television shows, so let’s cross our fingers. Also, trailer breakdowns will come in a separate post.

So, let’s get into the content at the Lucasfilm showcase!

Movies

There will be a Star Wars movie about the Dawn of the Jedi. There will be a movie set 15 years after Rise of Skywalker about the rise of a Jedi Order.

The director of Logan will direct the film about the Dawn of the Jedi, which will be the origin of how they came about and will be a “biblical epic” set before the Old Republic and will be set 25,000 years before the Skywalker Saga.

Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy’s film will be about the new Jedi Order set fifteen years after RoS.

It has been confirmed that Dave Filoni will direct a Star Wars movie set between Episode VI and Episode VII that would tie the events of the Mando verse together and take aspects from Legends/Expanded Universe.

Daisy Ridley will return for Sharmeen’s film as Rey, who will be a Jedi Master.

Television Shows

Andor

First up was Andor, where the cast was bought out on the stage, including Andy Serkis and B2, who told the crowd to “get with the program.” Filming for Season 2 will continue until August, meaning Andor Season 2 will drop in late August 2024.

The Acolyte

Next up at the Lucasfilm Showcase is The Acolyte with a new logo! As of writing, four episodes of the series have been completed, and Kathleen Kennedy has seen them. Showrunner Leslye Headland said she pitched the series as Frozen meets Kill Bill and is told from the perspective of the villains. She also teased there would be a ton of Jedi and that the Wookiee Jedi she bought out on stage is an original character named Kel Naka.

There will also be a spiritual war going on between siblings, parents, masters and apprentices. It is also the earliest story told on screen in Star Wars media.

Leslye also said the series is set before the prequels when “the villains are outnumbered.” That’s not a direct quote.

Furthermore, Joonas Suotamo, who also played Chewbacca, will play the Wookiee Jedi.

Amandla Stenberg walks out looking like Padmé from Attack of the Clones. Moreover, her character also tries to kill Carrie Anne Moss’s character.

Lee Jung-Jae plays a Jedi Master.

Jodie Turner-Smith is playing an original character.

Dafne Keen and Charlie Barnett’s characters wield lightsabers. Charlie uses a yellow lightsaber. Manny Jacinto.

Also, the species from the Trade Federation will appear. It’s a Neimodian like Gunray.

Production wraps in May 2023.

Finally, The Acolyte will release in 2024.

The Mandalorian

Pedro appeared in a video as he could not be there in person.

Jon Favreau says it’s time for the Mandalorian story to culminate. The footage is shown for Episode 7 (coming in the next week). Rick Famuyiwa says that the last two episodes of Mando Season 3 will bring about a resolution to The Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett.

Boba might be in Mando Season 3. Meanwhile, Moff Gideon will appear in the next episode.

Skeleton Crew

The series has wrapped filming and will follow a group of children on an adventure that becomes too much for them to handle independently.

According to Kathleen Kennedy, Jon Watts borrowed the tone of films Amblin produced, which he nailed. Favreau said that the idea for Skeleton Crew had been around before Disney+ became an idea.

Directors on the series include the Daniels, Jon Watts, Bryce Dallas Howard, David Lowery, Jake Schreier and Lee Isaac Chung.

Jude Law was on stage with some of the other cast. One of the kids is the same species as Max Rebo. Law will be playing a Jedi.

The series will drop in 2023 on Disney+.

Ahsoka

Ahsoka will debut in August and may get a second season if the first season is successful.

There was a first look at the live-action Sabine (Natasha Liu Bordizzo).

Rosario Dawson mentioned that Ahsoka is “looking for someone [Ezra].” Then, Mary Elizabeth Winstead walked out on stage, confirming she was playing Hera.

Morgan Elsbeth will appear, and there was a brief look at Thrawn and Ezra, of course, Chopper. In conclusion, Genevieve O’Reilly will return as Mon Mothma.
