More information has come out regarding Kiri, Jake and Neytiri’s adoptive daughter and Grace Augustine in a new scene. James Cameron did an interview on a French show where he debuted a new clip from Avatar: The Way of Water. Avatar Theory did a breakdown of the scene where he references a few things that clarify suspicions that have been going around for a while.

Just a heads up, this post, like all of our other Avatar coverage, is being marked as a spoiler. However, some of what we will discuss here has been seen in previously released images. So, let’s jump in, shall we?

Kiri Knows Who Grace Was

Avatar Theory’s breakdown confirms that Kiri knows about Grace. In the scene, Kiri is seen on top of the glass of the tank that holds the Avatar. We were not expecting to see the Avatar at all, as we thought it was buried after Kiri’s birth.

Kiri addresses the Avatar as “mom”, meaning she knows who Grace is and that Neytiri and Jake are her adoptive parents. She is also not alone as her brothers, Neteyam and possibly Lo’ak, are seen in the background. Kiri also hugs the glass as if giving Grace a hug. Spider is also present when she’s watching the video log of Grace.

The still from a few months back that shows Kiri watching the video log shows her with a breathing mask around her neck. Avatar Theory’s video also shows that Spider and Kiri appear to talk when he wanders over to her when she’s leading against the stastis pod.

Kiri also uses the breather so why is she do this? It’s hard to say as the scene is said to be really short. It’s possible that she’s playing around with it or she needs it for some reason, in the same way the recoms (like Quaritch) do.

Norm And Max

In the background of the clip, Avatar Theory reveals that Norm and Max are both present. Now, this tells us a couple of things. One is that they are in the main part of the story, at least, at the beginning. It was stated previously that both characters were in the film. However, it was speculated that Norm would appear only in video logs by Grace and probably Jake.

Max’s role was unknown until now. We know they remained on Pandora as they were both present when the RDA were sent back to Earth at the end of the first film. Also, the scene, is seen to take place at Hell’s Gate.

Another thing that we need point out is Norm and Max are present when Neteyam and like Lo’ak are. This is also confirms that they’re well-aware of the Sully kids. This backs up why Norm was present in a still during the presentation of Neteyam as a baby.

It looks like Jake and Neytiri still see their human allies as part of their family. Why else would Norm be there if that wasn’t the case?

Hell’s Gate

Hell’s Gate played a prominent role in the first film and will likely play some kind of role in The Way of Water. At least at the beginning. After all, we’ll see Max, Norm and the Sully kids there. It also appears that the Sully children, at least, the boys and Kiri are frequent visitors, possibility with their parents permission to be there.

Finally, if we had to guess, it would’ve taken a lot of convincing on Jake’s part to get Neytiri to agree to allow their children to be in a space where humans are. She probably doesn’t have any issues with Norm and Max as they are Jake’s friends, but the others would be a totally different story.
