SDCC ’19: What Panels Will Be At This Year’s Convention

San Diego Comic is around the corner, and we’re gearing up to hear what panels will show what’s coming next for our favourite franchises. However, there will be a few noticeable absences to the panel circuit this year for various reasons. The information in this article comes from Inverse.

Let’s begin with the ones we know will be there.

Arrowverse

It wouldn’t be Comic-Con without The CW’s Arrowverse panels. This year’s panels for Greg Berlanti’s superhero franchise will be bittersweet for fans. It will be the final time Arrow takes to the stage as it enters its eighth and final season when the series returns in October.

Though, there is happier news with the return of Supergirl and The Flash. Unfortunately, there is no mention of Legends of Tomorrow making an appearance at this year’s Con.

Also, a panel for the upcoming freshman series, Batwoman, will fully show the pilot episode. Be on the lookout for new footage or images from the panel.

Black Lightning

Despite not being a part of the Arrowverse (yet!), Black Lightning will return to Comic-Con this year to talk about its upcoming third season.

Gothamverse

Since Gotham wrapped its final season, a new show set in the same universe will take its spot at Comic-Con. Pennyworth will make its SDCC debut with its panel, which will show its pilot episode.

Titansverse

The Arrowverse isn’t the only Greg Berlanti franchise featured at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con. In addition, Titans and Doom Patrol will have panels this year to anticipate their upcoming second seasons.

The Vampire Diaries’ Verse

Moving away from the superhero genre, it’s been announced that the second spinoff to The Vampire Diaries, Legacies, will return to the ‘Con to welcome the series back for its upcoming season 2.

The Boys

Amazon Studios will debut its new show, The Boys, with its own panel. Be on the lookout for footage and a taste of what the show will feature with its edgy tone and content.

It: Chapter 2

If you want a good scare, the second installment to the It duology, IT: Chapter 2, will feature at the third annual ScareDiego event. According to reports from Deadline, there may be a tease from the film at the event featuring unseen footage.

Westworld

If you’re a fan of the HBO series Westworld, then you’re in luck, as the series will feature at SDCC and bring about new footage from the new season. The panel will feature a discussion, and attendees may include:

  • Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy
  • Ed Harris
  • Thandie Newton
  • Aaron Paul
  • Tessa Thompson
  • Evan Rachel Wood
  • Jeffrey Wright

Game of Thrones

While Game of Thrones may be over, that doesn’t stop Benioff and Weiss from stopping by San Diego for an in-depth discussion about the final season and what’s to come in Westeros with the upcoming spinoffs. Expect stars from the original series to appear with:

  • John Bradley
  • Jacob Anderson
  • Maisie Williams
  • Isaac Hempstead Wright
  • Iain Glen
  • Conleth Hill
  • Nathalie Emmanuel
  • Nikolaj Coster-Waldau
  • Liam Cunningham

All are expecting to make an appearance. Also, be on alert for news on the upcoming prequel series, Moonblood (title not final), which is currently in the middle of filming. There may also be photos involved.

Marvel

Phase Four of the Marvel Cinematic Universe will be announced in Hall H. We already know the titles for the next phase, but this Phase Four panel will be our official announcement.

The film announced are currently:

  • Black Panther 2
  • Doctor Strange 2
  • Shang-Chi
  • The Eternals
  • Black Widow
  • Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3

Though, please bear in mind this may change. Black Widow is already filming, and a script has already been written for GotG Vol. 3. The panel may officer release dates, an official confirmation on titles, footage, casting announcements and more.

Uncertain Panels

The list above is all Inverse had on what’s coming to SDCC this year. There are a few uncertain panels that we aren’t sure will be at the convention.

Krypton

Syfy’s breakout series and Superman prequel Krypton made its SDCC debut last year. However, this year, there’s been no confirmation whether the series will feature at the ‘Con.

In a recent interview, series stars Cameron Cuffe (Seg-El) and Colin Salmon (General Dru-Zod) were asked if the show feature at San Diego. Of course, they couldn’t confirm anything, but they couldn’t deny anything either.

Charmed

With the announcement that CW shows would feature, one notable name was left off the list; the rebooted Charmed. Like Krypton, the reboot supernatural series debuted at SDCC last year with its own panel. However, there’s no mention of a panel this year.

Supernatural

Supernatural has been a staple on the CW since the channel was known as the WB. With the series now reaching the end of its run like Arrow is, it should be at SDCC to say goodbye, right? Ah… we don’t know what’s going on. Anyone’s guess is whether there will be a farewell panel for the series.

Riverdale

Another CW series that’s a smash hit is Riverdale. It’s made SDCC appearances and has had panels in the past, but what about this year? There’s no confirmation as to whether there is going to be one.

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker

There are currently conflicting reports on whether Star Wars Episode 9 will have a panel at this year’s Comic-Con. However, the Rise of Skywalker will likely feature at D23 in August if there is no panel.

Star Trek: Discovery and Star Trek: Picard

Two noticeable absences from any confirmation panels list are CBS Access’s Star Trek: Discovery and its upcoming Star Trek: The Next Generation spinoff, Star Trek: Picard.

Discovery had a panel last year to get people excited for the second season. With its third season in production, you’d think there would be a panel for the third season, right?

Picard is in the same vote. Its first season will air later this year, so wouldn’t it be wise to tease the audience and fans?

Confirmed: Not Appearing

There’s also a list of panels that won’t happen this year.

Worlds of DC

It was confirmed that no DC films would appear at SDCC this year. So, don’t expect to see the footage, photos, or posters for the upcoming Birds of Prey or Wonder Woman 1984.

Sony

If you’re hoping to get a first glimpse at the upcoming Morbius film, you’ll be disappointed to learn that Sony has no plans to show its movies at SDCC. Collider points out there might be teases for Zombieland: Double Tap, Charlie’s Angels, Bloodshot, and Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.

Conclusion

So, what appears here isn’t a complete list of what will and won’t appear at this year’s Comic-Con International. There might be an update closer to the event,  but we’ll just have to see.

San Diego Comic-Con 2019 will run from the 18th of July to the 21st of July.
