Arrowverse News: Supergirl Finally Casts Its Lex Luthor

Lex; Priah

Since introducing Supergirl to the Arrowverse in 2015, fans have asked when they would introduce Superman villain Lex Luthor. Our favourite bald foe will appear on Supergirl in the new year.

Comicbook.com reveals Two and a Half Men star Jon Cryer will take on the iconic villain. He will join Brenda Strong and Katie McGrath, who already play Lex’s mother, Lillian, and half-sister, Lena. Yes, we know. All L names!

When Lex Luthor Is Due To Debut In Supergirl

Cryer’s Luthor will debut in the fifteenth episode of Supergirls fourth season after it returns from its holiday hiatus in mid-January 2019. It’s unknown when the fifteenth episode will air.

Robert Rovner and Jessica Queller, the executive producers of Supergirl, revealed it was their dream for Cryer to play their version of Lex Luthor. Here’s what they had to say.

“We are enormous fans of Jon Cryer, and he was instantly our dream actor to play the iconic role of Lex Luthor.”

They continued, expressing their excitement about having Cryer join their show.

“Jon is a super-talent, and the fact that he played Lenny Luthor in Superman IV brings an added layer of legacy to his casting. We’re beyond thrilled to welcome Jon to the Supergirl family.”

Cryer isn’t the only new addition to the Supergirl family this season. We’ve already met Kara’s protégé and future superhero, Nia Nal (Nicole Maines) and Ben Lockwood, aka Agent Liberty (Smallville alumni Sam Witwer). Cryer’s introduction will surely satisfy fans. However, this writer isn’t sure how she feels about Cryer in the role. I’ve never seen him play a villain before.

Only time will tell how the portrayal will play out. Cannot wait to see how Lex’s introduction plays out, though. This is a character I have wanted on the show since Superman’s appearance in Season 2.

Supergirl airs on Sundays before the new Charmed on The CW.
