Jason Grace. Son of Jupiter. The younger brother of Thalia Grace, the Greek demigoddess who got turned into a pine tree by Zeus. To his Roman cohorts, Jason was seen as the perfect soldier. But was he? Often compared to Percy Jackson, the Greek demigod son of Poseidon, the two are shown how similar they are.
Like Percy, Jason is seen as a near-perfect soldier by those associated with him. But, as his Riordan wiki page points out, he is seen as the golden boy due to who his father is. As the son of Jupiter, the Roman personality of Zeus, he is put on a metaphorical pedestal.
Percy is considered the opposite. Despite being the favourite son of Poseidon, he doesn’t push his status, but he is seen as dangerous by those wary of him. One of these individuals is Athena, the goddess of wisdom and the mother of his girlfriend, Annabeth Chase. He also had to work to earn the respect he has. While Jason doesn’t push his standing either, he is held so highly that no one dares judge him for fear of being struck with lightning by Jupiter.
Worthy But Forced
Jason is a worthwhile soldier. He looks out for those under his command and is considered by fellow Praetor Reyna to be the ‘perfect all American boy’. However, he feels insecure due to his paternity and develops a negative view of his father.
When he is switched with Percy by his stepmother, Juno (Hera to the Greeks), Jason finds Camp Half-Blood to affect who he is as a person. He no longer feels forced to be the leader he is at Camp Jupiter and becomes more of a jokester who bends the rules.
So, is Jason the perfect soldier? No, he’s not because he was forced into the position. Had he wanted to choose to lead, he would have. In conclusion, this counters Percy, who steps up during the Second Titan War to lead his fellow demigods into battle.
