Former powerhouse producer Harvey Weinstein will most definitely die behind bars. The ABC reports that the disgraced Hollywood heavyweight was sentenced to 16 years for the rape of an Italian actress and model in 2013 in a Los Angeles court. This sits on top of the previous more than 20-year sentencing he received in 2020 in a New York court. The actor has already served a couple of years of his original sentence.
Given his age, it is increasingly confident that he will never see the outside of his prison cell again. During his previous court appearances, Harvey was seen looking “frail” and walking with a walking frame, likely for sympathy. One of his lawyers in the first case was Donna Rotunno, a renowned men’s rights lawyer known for getting her male clients off sexual assault charges. Despite her high success rate, she lost the case to get her high-profile client off the hook.
Harvey Weinstein Sentenced A Second Time
According to CBCNN, Weinstein was found guilty of rape in December 2022, and Harvey was in the courtroom for his sentencing. He also addressed the court for the first time and maintained his innocence, claiming all the sexual relations he had with the women accusing him were consensual. However, the sentencing news made his alleged victim burst into tears.
The sentencing team wanted to give the disgraced producer the maximum sentence of 24 years. This is the highest one can receive in California, but a shorter sentence was passed. A lawyer specialising in sexual assault cases that the sentencing was “meaningful” given that the victim, identified only as “Jane Doe 1”, could prove to the judge that Harvey did rape her.
The Case Was Originally Bought About By Four Women
Initially, the charges came about from four women. While only one successfully got charges against him, this is a win for all involved. One of his accusers, in this case, was the now-wife of California governor Gavin Newsom. Jennifer Sibel Newsom and her husband were not together when the offence occurred.
The case that Sibel Newsom, a documentary filmmaker and an actress, had bought against Weinstein was thrown out as the jury could not decide on a verdict. She claims the producer lured her to a hotel room in 2005 under the guise of discussing projects they could work on. He then allegedly proceeded to rape her. His lawyers claim it was consensual. It is unknown who the Italian actress and model are.
