Jacques “Jack” Duquesne in Marvel Comics is the villain and superhero, Swordman. However, in the MCU, he is neither. Instead, he is introduced as the fiancé of Eleanor Bishop, the mother of Kate Bishop, Clint Barton’s future protégé.
Born into the wealthy Duquesne family, Jack never had to work a day in his life (his words). He loved swords and was fascinated with them and became highly trained in swordsmanship.
Kate had no idea her mother was engaged until she returned to New York for Christmas break. It’s here that she learns Jack Duqesne is to be her stepfather. Kate became overly suspicious of him and thought he was behind the murder of his uncle, Armand. However, Eleanor framed him for all of her crimes.
However, Jack Duqesne was acquitted when it came out that Eleanor was responsible for everything he believed he had done.
Retooling A Character
The MCU is a great place to take a character and retool them for a new audience who might not be familiar with them. It’s also interesting that Jack Duquesne wasn’t presented as a villain or a hero but someone connected to the inner story, but hasn’t got any form of alliance to any group.
Moreover, whether Jack Duquesne has any future in the MCU in the future is unclear. He could pop up again as a contact for Kate if Clint cannot be there to help her. Also, he could be a contact for the future Avengers or Young Avengers if Kate joins a superhero team.
