What Were The Horcruxes In Harry Potter?

Horcruxes, Harry Potter

Harry Potter’s main goal throughout the seven Harry Potter books was to stop Lord Voldemort at all costs. Part of that plan was to destroy the details of the Dark Wizard’s soul that resided inside several items, becoming Horcruxes. We don’t know how one is made but we know the objects used in this heinous crime.

It is unthinkable that someone would divide their soul more than once. However, before becoming Lord Voldemort, Tom Riddle achieved this, which shows how wicked and cruel he was. His main fear was death; he never thought he would face it if he hid parts of his soul. According to the Harry Potter Wiki page, each Horcrux was created in tandem with a murder. So, the first Horcrux, the diary, was made via the death of Moaning Myrtle.

Let’s look at the items used to create the famed seven Horcruxes. Also, this list is in no particular order.

1. Tom Riddle’s Diary

The first of the Horcruxes we got to see was Tom Riddle’s diary. During the Chamber of Secrets, Lucius Malfoy, one of Voldemort’s Death Eaters, planted the diary in Ginny Weasley’s cauldron. At the time, it was unknown what the point of the object was.

Also, the first Horcrux was created when created upon the murder of Muggle-born Hogwarts student Myrtle Warren.

Ginny, who had a massive crush on Harry, spilled her feelings into the diary, unaware that Voldemort’s soul was talking back to her.

It was later destroyed in the Chamber of Secrets when Harry stabbed it with a Basilisk fang.

2. Salazar Slytherin’s Locket

The locket of Salazar Slytherin Horcrux was created when a Muggle tramp was murdered. It was hidden in the Crystal cave but was later stolen by Regulus Black and the house elf Kreacher before it was given to Dolores Umbridge. Ron Weasley destroyed it.

3. The Gaunt Ring

The third of the Horcruxes is the Gaunt Ring. The Horcrux was created upon the murder of Lord Voldemort’s father, Tom Riddle Senior, with the wand of Morfin Gaunt, Voldemort’s uncle. Albus Dumbledore later destroyed the ring.

4. Helga Hufflepuff’s Cup

The Hufflepuff’s Cup Horcrux was created when Hepzibah Smith was murdered. It was later stored in the Lestrange family vault. Hermione Granger later destroyed it with a Basilisk fang.

5. Rowena Ravenclaw’s Diadem

The Diadem (tiara) Horcrux was created upon the murder of an Albanian peasant. It was later hidden in the Room of Requirement. The Diadem was destroyed by Vincent Crabbe when he lit an out-of-control fire that killed him.

6. Nagini

Upon the murder of Bertha Jorkins, Nagini, Voldemort’s prized pet snake, became the sixth Horcrux that was always at her master’s side. Neville Longbottom killed her with the Sword of Gryffindor.

7. Harry Potter Is The Pseduo Horcrux

Harry Potter was never meant to be a Horcrux. He was supposed to die after Lord Voldemort used the killing curse on him. However, after the murder of his mother, Lily, who refused to allow the Dark Lord to murder her son.

Lily’s love for her son placed him in a protective shield that allowed the killing curse to rebound and hit Voldemort, creating the seventh of the Horcruxes. Voldemort destroyed Horcrux within Harry, though it came at the cost of his immortality. Harry was able to finish him once and for all.
