Secret Invasion is heating up, putting Nick Fury in a light we’ve never seen him in. Last week we left him holding Maria Hill as she died in his arms. This week, he’s falling out with just about everyone. He had massive arguments with Rhodey and Talos on two separate occasions, and Hill’s mother, Elizabeth, blames him for her daughter’s demise.
We also learn that Fury didn’t keep his promise to the Skrulls he was protecting, whom we met in Captain Marvel. This was touched on briefly during episode one with Talos, hence why G’iah, Talos and Soren’s daughter, turned against them.
Fury breaks down in tears after the pressure becomes too much for him. Moreover, his argument with Rhodes reveals that the colonel and Iron Man’s best friend has known about the Skrulls for fifteen years.
Elsewhere, Fury’s friend, Sonya Falsworth, has the time of her life cutting off an enemy Skrull’s finger to see if he’s a Skrull. Meanwhile, the verdict is still out on what side G’iah is on.
In the flashbacks to 1995 and 1997, we see Soren, who changes her appearance into a human and G’iah as a child. It’s also possible that the female Skrull has a tie to Fury, which we learn at the end of the episode. However, two different actresses play Soren in the flashback, and she has no dialogue.
This is the third show to reference Captain Marvel directly. WandaVision references that Monica Rambeau has fallen out with her godmother since they met the Skrulls. Ms Marvel looks at Kamala Khan, how she takes up her moniker, and how her idol is Carol Danvers. Carol appears in the post-credit scene of the final episode. Secret Invasion ties directly to Captain Marvel and the upcoming The Marvels.
Finally, the big reveal wasn’t that Fury was married, as this was first referenced in Captain America: The Winter Soldier. The big reveal is that his wife, Priscilla, is a Skrull. In conclusion, her Skrull name is Varra.
