When Kevin Feige greenlit the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s adaptation of the comic series Secret Invasion, he wasn’t joking around. This new show packs punches that cut deep. While many critics have called the show “slow”, we don’t believe that. Given the three big shocks in this episode, it is enough to give us talking points.

In case. You missed it; this post contains MAJOR spoilers for the Secret Invasion premiere, “Resurrection.”

Where Is The True Everett Ross?

The series opens with Everett Ross, last seen in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. He comes into contact with Agent Prescod, who is working on a case, attempting to uncover a Skrull conspiracy. Ross laughs it off, and Prescod ends up dead. While the agent was correct, Everett called Agent Maria Hill for help.

After being chased by an unknown assailant, Ross jumps off a roof and literally goes, splat! on the pavement. Hill catches up with him but discovers that the dying “Ross” is a Skrull. The assailment reveals themself to be Talos, Fury’s longtime Skrull friend.

To add to the Secret Invasion, Hill later tells Fury that Prescod is onto something.

Hill And Talos’s Reunion With Fury And The Revelation About Soren

Speaking of Fury, he returns to Erth after spending several years on the space station, S.A.B.E.R. Hill then takes her former boss back to where she’s hiding with Talos. The friends reunite, and Fury sympathises with Talos for losing his wife, Soren.

The conversation turns to G’iah, Talos and Soren’s daughter. Until now, we haven’t known what their daughter’s name was. This was revealed to the public a while ago. Anyway, Talos explains that a group of younger Skrulls were upset that Carol Danvers and Fury “broke their promise” about finding them a new home. G’iah was among these Skrulls.

G’iah Is Horribly Misguided, And Her Reunion With her Father

Someplace in Moscow, G’iah guides a new Skrull into the “safe haven” that the group leader, Gravik, has formed. She is then given a mission to retrieve two bags. Little does she realise Hill is on her tail, and so is Talos, though he is unaware she’s the carrier.

G’iah manages to shake off Hill when the two get into a fight. Talos picks up the chase, and he traps her before she can make a getaway.

Upon their tense reunion, Talos mentions Soren and how disappointed she’d be. G’iah says her mother doesn’t know what she wants; present tense. Talos then reveals Gravik’s group were responsible for Soren’s death.

G’iah isn’t sure how to take the news and leaves with the bombs. Once she leaves, she breaks down in tears.

A Truce?

Realising that her dad was right, G’iah contacts him and comes up with a plan to get the bombs away. She tells him the bags containing the bombs are supposed to be given to various people. The bags are sprayed with infrared, so only Hill, Fury, and Talos can see who has the right bags with special glasses.

However, the bags end up being decoys, and Gravik activates three bombs remotely, causing maximum damage and chaos. In the madness, Hill is shot by who she believes to be Fury, only for the real Fury to show up a second later and holds her as she dies. The one behind her killing is Gravik.

Talos arrives and pulls Fury out of the chaos, leaving Hill’s body behind.

Other Small Things

A few small things that do pop up in this first Secret Invasion episode include:

  • The current president of the US in the MCU is Ritson.
  • Rhodey has a cameo.
  • Fury is friends with Sonya Falsworth, an agent with MI6.
  • The goal of the Secret Invasion is to ensure the extinction of the human race so that the Skrulls can inhabit Earth.
  • Gravik’s sect of Skrulls is upset with Carol and Fury. Note this is not the first time someone has taken issue with Carol. Her goddaughter, Monica Rambeau, was upset with her during WandaVision.
