The Last Of Us was a hit for HBO after the recent success of House of the Dragon. Game Of Thrones alum Bella Ramsey and Pedro Pascal portray Ellie Williams and Joel Miller, live-action iterations of the same characters from the bestselling videogame series The Last of Us.

This post will review who Ellie Williams is in the series, not the video game.

Who Is The Last Of Us’ Ellie Williams?

Born to a woman named Anna, Ellie Williams’ birth came around during a deadly pandemic. Her father is unknown. As Anna gave birth, she was bitten on the thigh by an infected woman infecting both mother and child.

Despite her fatal wounds, Anna kills her attacker and gives birth to a daughter she names Ellie. Her longtime friend, Marlene, finds them.

Anna, knowing she’s infected, asks Marlene to take Ellie. She also requests that Marlene kill her [Anna]. Marlene does as instructed and shoots her in the head. Before she dies, Anna gives her infant daughter her switchblade as a reminder of where she came from.

Ellie was raised within the confines of FEDRA’s Military Prep School. Marlene, the leader of the Fireflies, watched over her as she grew up, as she could not raise the girl herself due to her responsibilities. As an orphan, Ellie grew resistant. She became friends with a girl named Riley, who she would later become romantically involved.

Finally, she becomes close to fellow survivor Joel Miller after he and his partner Tess free her from the Fireflies who have turned her into their captive.
