She’s sassy, unpredictable and loves a good drink. Beckett Mariner is a lead character in the animated series Star Trek: Lower Decks. The daughter of Admiral Alonzo Freeman and Captain Carol Freeman of the USS Cerritos, Mariner is well known for her disobedience and fear of being promoted.
Before the start of Lower Decks, Beckett Mariner had been on five ships and had seen a lot. Her best friend on the Cerritos is Bradward Biomler, a fellow Ensign. They’re also friends with D’Vana Tendi, an Orion Ensign and Samanthan Rutherford, a recently created cyborg.
Beckett Mariner: Breaker Of Rules And Loves To Piss Off Her Mother
Despite her experience, Beckett loves to break the rules daily. She even loves pissing off her mother, who is also her captain. She was sent to the Cerritos as a last resort, as all the other ships could not deal with her antics, leading to her constantly being demoted.
Early in Season 1, Carol gets sick of her daughter’s behaviour and, together with her first officer, Jack Ransom, tries to get Mariner to resign from the Cerritos. Beckett realises what her mother is doing, refuses to play her game, and enjoys doing her assigned tasks.
Loyal
While she can annoy her mother, she is fiercely loyal. Beckett Mariner loves Carol dearly and will be the first to defend her. This is evident when Captain Freeman is arrested for a crime she didn’t commit.
Mariner is also loyal to her friends, especially Biomler. She is also close to Captain Amina Ramsay, who was her best friend at Starfleet Academy.
