5 Star Trek: Strange New Worlds Season 1 Plotlines That Season 2 Needs To Complete

plots

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds Season 1 was incredible, but will Season 2 finish some of the storylines? Strange New Worlds was worth the wait as it gave us more Spock, Pike and Number One and a few new and familiar faces in Uhura, Chapel, and M’Benga. Let’s not forget that we also got the Kirk brothers, Sam and Jim and T’Pring, Spock’s future wife. There were so many plots that weren’t tied up.

There is so much that Season 1 did, but there is a load of stuff that wasn’t finished. Let’s talk about five of those things, shall we? Be sure to check out our What We Know So Far post. Also, be sure to check out our reviews for the first two episodes, Strange New Worlds, Children of the Comet and the finale.

1. Sybok

One of the most interesting plots was the setup for an eventual appearance from Sybok, Spock’s half-brother. This was also the last time we see T’Pring in the season. So, something tells us that we’re going to get more of this next season. Hopefully, we’ll get to see the differences between the brothers and how Spock’s evolution makes him more human than his brother.

2. The Kirk Dilemma

Of all the plots in the first season, we did NOT expect to see James T Kirk until further down the line. In the first episode, Pike and Number One mentioned a Lieutenant Kirk. Naturally, we assumed it was Jim, given his age. However, we soon discovered that it was his older brother, George Samuel “Sam” Kirk that Pike and Number One were talking about. We’ve known for a while that Paul Wesley was cast as Jim for Season 2.

Though, what we were not aware of, was that Wesley had filmed an appearance for the finale of Season 1 as an alternate Jim from another timeline. In that timeline, he had never known Spock the way he does in the prime timeline and his relationships were not the same as he never took over the captaincy of the USS Enterprise.

At the end of the finale, we meet the prime timeline Jim who mentions that he and Sam grew up in Iowa and that their dad, George Senior served on the USS Kelvin. Perhaps Season 2 will give us more information on the Kirks.

3. M’Benga’s Daughter

Moving away from the plots of the Kirks and Sybok, Season 1 delves into Doctor M’Benga, the doctor who served as Bones’ second-in-command in a handful of episodes of TOS has a major role to play in SNW. His story mostly revolved around his young daughter who had a terminal illness. At first, he keeps her a secret until he is discovered by Una (Number One).

Rukiya is later released from the transporter buffer where she is being kept and goes with the lifeform that temporarily cured her disease. Despite being gone only a few minutes, she had actually spent a lifetime doing things she would not have done inside the buffer.

Now, while Rukiya’s story looks like it was wrapped up, perhaps it’s not. One of the plots for Season 2 could be she reappears to her father, needing help.

4. Una’s Arrest

Number One had a tough time during season 1. She wasn’t seen a lot and when she was, she had to hide that she was an Illyrian, a species who used augmentations to appear human. This practice was not allowed by the Federation and therefore, the species was banned from both the Federation and Starfleet.

While very few people were aware that Una was an Illyrian, someone told Starfleet and she was arrested. This arrest was mentioned in the alternate future that Pike enters with his alternate self. Season 2 should hopefully dive into this more as they wouldn’t just leave this thread hanging.

5. Meet The Lower Decks Crew

For our final point, we wanted to bring in a new fact that hasn’t actually been referenced on screen. There has been confirmation that SNW will be doing a crossover episode. The crew from the animated series, Star Trek: Lower Decks will be jumping over into live-action. The voice cast will be playing live-action versions of their animated characters. Makes us wonder how this will be done, given the different timelines.

This announcement was made at San Diego Comic-Con.
