Was Meghan Allowed To Wear The Spencer Tiara? – OPINION

Spencer Tiara

Meghan Markle would NOT have been allowed to wear the famed Spencer Tiara when she married Prince Harry. It’s common sense. She was not marrying into the Spencer family, but the royal family. Yes, her late mother-in-law, Diana, Princess of Wales, was born a Spencer, but neither of her sons, Prince William and Harry, do not carry their mother’s surname. They are royals. Also, the former actress is not a blood Spencer.

Acclaimed author and journalist Tom Bower wrote his book Revenge that the Spencers, William and his wife, Catherine, were left baffled by Harry’s claim that his then-girlfriend embodied his late mother. So now, why am I bringing this up at all? A tweet from Megxiteer, Robin Lynn King, bought my attention to a tweet from Sussex Squaddie, Myra (believed to be Meghan herself). In it, she said the following:

Harry’s Claim About Meghan Being Offered The Tiara

This could be based on what Harry claimed in his memoir, Spare, where he claimed that his mother’s family had offered Meghan to wear the Spencer Tiara and that the edges of the veil were designed around the scalloped edges of the Spencer Tiara. This is according to an article from the Sussexes’ favourite publication to sue, The Daily Mail.

In the book, the prince claimed that the Spencer Tiara was owned by his mother. Now, Diana didn’t personally “own” the Tiara. Instead, it is an heirloom handed down through the generations of Spencer women. For example, both her sisters, Baroness Jane Fellowes and Lady Sarah McCorquodale, wore the Tiara when they got married.

Only Spencer Women Can Wear The Tiara

The Tiara is only available to women with Spencer blood or marrying into the family and set to take the last name. One example is the first wife of Charles Spencer, Sarah, Jane and Diana’s brother. Victoria Lockwood wore the Tiara on her wedding day. However, the wives who came after her, Caroline Freud and Karen Gordon, did not.

Recently, the Spencer Tiara was worn by Celia McCorquodale, the daughter of Lady Sarah, when she married George Woodhouse. However, Princess Charlotte will NOT inherit the Tiara as she is NOT a Spencer by birth. Instead, it will be handed to the heir to the Spencer earldom, Louis Spencer, Earl Spencer’s eldest son, upon the Earl’s death. The information about these claims comes from United States tabloids, Hello Magazine and Insider.

The Court Jeweller did a piece on the usually unseen Spencer Honeysuckle Tiara where she mentions that William and Harry are NOT set to inherit their mother’s family heirlooms. They only got her jewellery collection, not the tiaras she never owned. The Spencer family overall own them.

Also, I need to point that there was an article in the Express that claims Princess Charlotte will inherit the Spencer tiara. This is not true as the heirloom belongs to the Spencer family, and never belonged to Diana personally.

William and Harry inherited most of her jewellery collection, but they never had permission to remove the tiara from the Spencer family. Diana only put it on the map and never personally owned it.

Why Would Earl Spencer Allow Meghan To Wear The Tiara And Not Catherine?

Going back to the topic, why would Charles Spencer allow Meghan to wear the Tiara and not Catherine? I believe that Harry thought his uncle and aunts approved of his then-fiancée being like their late sister. However, we know from Tom Bower’s book that they felt the opposite of what their nephew thought.

Catherine has no right to wear the Spencer Tiara, though Princess Charlotte does, as does Lilibet. Why? Because they are Diana’s granddaughters. If the daughters of Sarah, Jane and Charles are allowed to wear it, then Diana’s granddaughters can too. Whether Charlotte or Lilibet would, we don’t know.

Not A Chance That Meghan Was Ever Offered The Tiara

I do not believe that Meghan was ever offered the Spencer Tiara. Also, the part of the story where Harry claims that The Queen begged Markle to wear one of the royal tiaras is total BS. Her late Majesty wouldn’t “beg” anyone. That is not her style.

Though I can see one possible scenario, and it is MY OPINION. I can see Harry putting in a request with his Uncle Charles (or Angela Kelly if he were stupid enough) to get access to the Spencer Tiara, and he [Harry] told Meghan that he could get access to it because, you know, he’s “Diana’s boy.” While he waited for a response from Earl Spencer, Markle went about having her wedding dress designer design the veil to mirror the Tiara. Harry probably got the news that Meghan couldn’t have the precious family tiara, but it was too late. The veil was already in production, so Markle had to settle for one of the tiaras from The Queen.

In conclusion, I believe what Tom Bower said about the Spencers not seeing their sister in Meghan. Moreover, I don’t think the Spencer Tiara was on the table. Also, Angela Kelly has no say over the Spencer Tiara.
