Will Tiaras Be Worn At Charles’ Coronation?

Who doesn’t love a good tiara event? We sure do, and we’re looking forward to seeing the pomp and circumstance of the coronation 70 years in the making. King Charles III waited a long time to be the monarch. With the death of his mother, Her late Majesty The Queen, in early September, Charles’ coronation has been planned for years after Operation: Golden Orb and will be held on May 6th 2023, which also happens to be his youngest grandson, Archie’s fourth birthday.

Since before the coronation’s date was revealed, it has long been speculated whether it would be a tiara event. Unlike The Queen’s coronation in June 1953, Charles’ crowning will be much smaller, with only a couple of thousand people. Over 8,000 people attended The Queen’s coronation, and Westminister Abbey had been closed for five months so more seating could be installed. The BBC states that the average maximum compacity is just over 2000, which will

So, going over to the tiara question, could the ladies wear them? First, let’s get the main point out of the way. It’s hard to say. They may be, but we must stress that it may only be working royals. This means Catherine, Princess of Wales and Sophie, Countess of Wessex. It’s unlikely that Lady Louise and Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie will wear them.

Who Will Wear A Head Piece?

Princess Charlotte is a question mark. Given how young she is, it’s unlikely. However, she might end up wearing a coronet. It’s the same with Sophie. Again, though, it will depend on what Charles wants to do.

Finally, we need to address that it has been revealed that Charles will be coronated with the Saint Edward’s Crown, which was worn by The Queen but only at her coronation due to how heavy it is. It was also worn by Charles’ grandfather, George VI and his great-grandfather, George V. It did not feature during Queen Victoria’s coronation. Charles will also wear the Imperial State crown during the ceremony.

As for Camilla, it is unclear which crown she might wear, but it has been suggested she could wear the Koh-i-Noor diamond, a controversial jewel from India that was worn in the crown made for the Queen Mother when George VI was crowned. Another suggestion that has been made is that she may wear the crown Queen Mary wore to her son’s coronation.
