Wait… Was That A Continuity Error? The Zapp Reference

Amy Wong mentions the Futurama version of James T. Kirk, Zapp Brannigan, in the Season 11 premiere episode. But we noticed that it’s almost like a reintroduction to the character like she [Amy] nor Leela know who he is. This had us confused.

Now, this brings us to the question at hand. Is Futurama Season 11 a reboot, or is it a continuation? The premiere gave mixed signals. Fry mentions that he’s been living in the future for 23 years. Meanwhile, Fry asks Leela before Farnsworth makes them young again if she wants to “go around again.”

There is also evidence in the episode to support the reboot theory. After everything returns to normal, Hermes says, “I feel like we’ve just been rebooted,” or something of that effect. As we mentioned in our reveal, Futurama Season 11 doesn’t hit the notes it should.

Is Zapp Known To The Planet Express Crew Or Not?

Returning to the Zapp situation, we hope this gets cleared up because it adds unnecessary holes to the story. It is entirely possible that Amy was joking. However, the tone of her voice and Leela’s response indicates that it wasn’t said in humour. They generally didn’t know who Zapp was. Though, Kif is referenced as knowing him. Amy claims he is a “friend” of Zapp.

Finally, what might have happened is that the season combines both continuation and reboot. Usually, these two cannot cohabitate. It doesn’t work as it is too complex and confusing for the audience. Moreover, it should be noted that we will be keeping an eye on this as the episodes drop, as fans deserve to have as few contradictions as possible. Yes, every show has some kind of plotholes, but the back and forth as to whether Zapp is currently known to the Planet Express crew is stupid and illogical. He either is or isn’t. It shouldn’t be that hard.
