Sir Michael Gambon Dies Aged 82

Michael Gambon, Dumbledore

Harry Potter fans are mourning the loss of yet another actor from the film franchise. Sir Michael Gambon was the second actor to play Hogwarts headmaster, Albus Dumbledore, after the 2002 death of Richard Harris, has passed away aged 82.

According to the BBC, Michael Gambon died in hospital surrounded by his family. His widow, Lady Gambon and son Fergus were with him when he passed. He was suffering from pneumonia. The actor had been in showbusiness for over 50 years with film and television credits. He was knighted in 1998.

The death of Michael Gambon is not the first Potterheads have had to deal with in recent years. Other Harry Potter cast deaths include, in no particular order, thanks to Indy100:

  • Richard Harris – 2002

We Love You, Sir Michael Gambon

The actors above are just a sample of those who have died over the years. Some names are more recognisable than others, as some played minor bit roles.

Michael Gambon might not be as beloved as Richard Harris was in the role, but he was the right choice to take over the role of Dumbledore. For so many fans who followed the films, he took on the heavy content given to the character in later films so well.

Godspeed and rest well, Sir Michael Gambon.
