Tom Bower has his finger on the pulse regarding the Sussexes. He was on Dan Wootton’s show, where he revealed that Harry and Meghan want to take the Spencer surname. For those who mightn’t be aware, ‘Spencer’ is the surname of Diana, Princess of Wales, before she married Charles in 1981.
Bower isn’t always on the money, but this one is believable as Harry still sees his wife as being the second coming of his mother. Meghan, meanwhile, sees herself as Diana, given she married Harry at the same age Diana was when she was killed in a car crash in Paris on August 31 1997. We’ve written about this a million times, where Markle was obsessed with the late Princess of Wales as a child and appears to still be as a middle-aged woman.
According to what Tom mentions to Dan in the video linked above), Meghan suggested they drop the name Windsor and become Spencer. He even confirms that she and Harry’s goal was to be Diana, hence the desire to change their surname. Though, he doe stress that this is a rumour discussed within the Sussex circle.
The Sussexes Will Never “Harry And Meghan Spencer”
However, there is one issue with Harry and Meghan’s logic. Meghan cannot be “Meghan Windsor” or “Meghan Mountbatten-Windsor.” She is not a blood royal. Legally, she is and will always be Rachel Meghan Markle. Catherine is still legally Catherine Elizabeth Middleton. Like Meghan, Kate is not a blood royal and can not take her husband’s surname.
If Harry and Meghan were to take the Spencer surname, it would greatly upset the king, though it wouldn’t be surprising if that were the point. By changing their names, the Sussexes would be upsetting Charles. This is a desperate stunt to show the world that Meghan IS Diana.
Harry couldn’t care less about how his father felt, much less how his brother would feel. It makes one wonder why he even showed his face at the coronation. He has Spencer blood, but he is not one of them. Not by a long shot, Meghan would never forfeit her title as she (allegedly) has changed her passport to being ‘The Duchess of Sussex’. She has garment bags with her monogram and “DSSOS” embossed on a Lady Dior bag.
