Fight as you mean it…
[CAUTION: This Post Contains Spoilers For Batwoman Season 2 Episode 16: ‘Rebirth’]
As Batwoman comes closer to its Season 2 finale, a fight is coming that will determine the fate of power within Gotham. In this week’s episode, Jacob joins Alice to recover Kate’s memories. Kate’s memories start returning, Luke meets John Diggle, and Mary promises her father she’ll continue his fight to save her sisters.
There is so much to unpack, and if we’re honest, it’s going to be interesting to see where the story goes from here. This is the most robust series ever, and we’re glad to be along for the ride. So, without further ado, let’s jump into it!
Jacob Sees The Light Within Alice
We never thought we’d say this, but it looks like Jacob sees the light regarding Alice. So, could this mean she’s becoming an anti-hero or even a hero? *shrugs* Given what happens to Ocean in this episode, we expect her to fall back into her old patterns. Though, we don’t think she’ll be taking her anger out on her family this time, which would put her father and sisters (yes, Mary is technically her sister, too) out of, at least, her firing line.
At the end of last week’s episode, Alice shows up in Jacob’s car as he’s leaving Crows HQ and tells him the one thing he never thought he’d hear; Kate is alive. In this week’s episode, we see them join forces to find a way to bring back Kate’s memories.
Jacob meets Ocean, and it’s weird, given the ending. As he and his psycho of a daughter work together, he sees a side of her that he never believed he’d see again. They tag-team to ‘kidnap’ Circe to restore her memories as Kate. The former commander of the Crows runs her fingerprints and sees Alice is telling the truth.
After a few attempts to get Kate’s memories back, Alice tries and is successful to a degree. Jacob calls Mary and tells her he’s with Alice trying to restore Kate to her former glory.
Kate Resurfaces (Kinda)
After Alice accesses some of Kate’s memories, they and Jacob are attacked by Black Mask’s men, and their father is kidnapped, as per TV Line. Alice tells ‘Circe’ to run, and she does as instructed.
Elsewhere, Ryan is in the Bat Mobile on a call with Mary when a woman runs out in front of the car. She stops and climbs out, asking if the woman is Kate Kane. ‘Circe’ responds with “Can I get back to you on that?”
Ryan takes ‘Circe’ back to Wayne Enterprises, exposing herself as Batwoman. She also reunites with Mary but is distant towards her because she doesn’t recognise her. Mary immediately apologises for hugging her, given the circumstances. Sophie shows up, and the Kate portion of her mind immediately embraces her.
But, a switch in her mind clicks over, and ‘Circe’ resurfaces and attacks Mary. Ryan and Sophie pull her off their friend, which allows Mary enough time to sedate her.
Luke Meets Dig
After his near-death experience, Luke struggles with what happened when Tavaroff shot him. He goes to a secret poker bar and confronts the man who almost killed him. He meets John Diggle (yes, THAT Diggle), who saves his ass when he and the corrupt Crows agent get into a fight outside the bar.
Dig, who is seen taking what looks like pain medication, tells Luke he knows that Lucius is his father as he looks him up in the ARGUS database. He tells him a bit about himself and how his dad was a Marine who was killed in action. Diggle will likely serve as an inspiration for Fox to suit up as Batwing as per Comic Book.
Jacob Tells Mary She Is The Only One Who Can Save Her Sisters
Jacob reveals to Black Mask that he’ll have him arrested so fast he won’t know what hit him. However, the evil dude turns the tides on him by revealing that his men are corrupt GCPD officers who arrest the former Crows leader for aiding and abiding Alice, a known criminal (obviously).
In prison, he calls Mary and tells her what’s going on. Mary says she’ll start making phone calls to get him out. Jacob tells her not to bother as they won’t be able to fight the charges. The conversation then changes to Beth and Kate, with her father telling her that he wishes she’d known Alice when she was Beth. Instead, he tells her that he loves her and that she is the only person who can save her sisters.
