Can We STOP Comparing Catherine, Duchess Of Cambridge To Princess Diana?

Last week, we did a post regarding the constant fashion comparisons between Princess Diana and her daughters-in-law, Catherine and Meghan. Well, we’re back with a similar topic, but instead, we’re taking on the Duchess of Cambridge and the way she handles her engagements. All the press do is say Kate is doing everything like Prince Charles’ first wife.

Catherine has her own interests and fashion choices. However, everything (apparently) relates to Diana. It’s tiresome and boring to read the same shit time and again. Every time the Duchess of Cambridge is in the media, the headlines read, “Kate Middleton’s sweet nod to Princess Diana.” Umm. What? Also, can we stop calling everything Meghan does “sweet”? It’s so irritating!

Give us a break! The Duchess of Cambridge is not like Diana. Sure, she crouches down to interact with children, but other royals do it too. Does that mean THEY are like the Princess of Wales? No. It doesn’t. Also, can we STOP referring to Catherine as “Kate Middleton”?

This person ceased to exist after she walked out of Westminister Abbey as Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Cambridge. Kate Middleton no longer exists and hasn’t since April 2011. Get with the program! You rarely caught the media referring to Princess Diana as Lady Diana after her wedding to Prince Charles in the early 80s.

Interests That Differ

How can people compare the late Princess of Wales to the Duchess of Cambridge when their charitable interests are different? Diana’s endeavours revolved around children and adults with AIDS and HIV, while Catherine’s centres on early childhood development. Yes, they both became involved with charities that focus on kids, but the topics are different.

While Diana loved interacting with the children and spending time with them, Catherine’s approach is more hands-on. She’s not afraid to give them high fives and to help them. While the Princess of Wales was like this too, the Duchess has a more confident air to her.

Age And Similarities

Catherine knew William incredibly well by the time they married in April 2011. Diana, however, didn’t know Charles well, despite being around royalty all of her life. Also, the Duchess was 29 when she and Wiliam walked the marriage route. The Princess of Wales was 20 by the time she and the Prince of Wales got married.

Not to mention, Wiliam and Catherine were the same age, whereas there was over a decade age gap between Diana and Charles. Also, the Cambridges have a lot in common while the Wales couple did not.

William is very supportive of Catherine’s work, and she is supportive of his. If he wants her involved, he’ll ask, and there is no enviousness between them. However, Charles became jealous of his first wife’s popularity when he thought the people should be relating more to him as he was to be their next monarch.

Catherine doesn’t mind being equal to her husband. She loves seeing what he’s working on and is willing to give him advice if he needs it.

Charles, meanwhile, had little interest in Diana’s work, and she had nothing to do with his. However, after she died, he used some of her parenting techniques. He later used them on their grandchildren.

It’s Not Necessary To Compare The Duchess Of Cambridge To The Princess Of Wales

Comparing Catherine to Diana is no different to comparing Sophie, Countess of Wessex to The Queen. There is no need for it. It’s like the media is looking for a reason to think that the Duchess of Cambridge is Diana reincarnated. She is not. They are two separate people who lived in two different periods.

Yes, there have been nods to Diana throughout Catherine’s time as William’s wife, but that is it. You can use images from when Prince George and Princess Charlotte were born and say that the Princess of Wales was an inspiration. Sure, whatever, but it’s impossible to say that the Duchess of Cambridge would’ve looked at photos and wanted to dress like her.

No, that’s something Meghan would’ve done. Everyone knows how obsessed she is with Diana. It’s tiring that the media seems to have the same depiction of Catherine when they should be focusing on her work. They shouldn’t be looking for comparisons between her and the mother-in-law she never got the chance to meet.
