How much did Queen Breha know about Leia’s true parentage? Obi-Wan Kenobi has given us a unique snapshot of Leia’s childhood on Alderaan and her relationship with her adoptive parents, Bail and Breha. Though, one thought has consumed us; how much did the Queen of Alderaan know about her daughter’s biological parentage?
Please be advised that this post does contain spoilers for Obi-Wan Kenobi and any canon books in which Queen Breha is featured.
While there is not much about Breha in the prequel era, we need to assume that she knew of her husband’s friendship with Padmé. We say this because, during the holo chat she and Bail have with Obi-Wan, her spouse mentions Luke. It is also noted that only Obi-Wan knows Leia’s importance.
It can be assumed that Breha is aware of Leia’s parentage. Bail would’ve explained it to her when he bought her home. There is a moment between the Queen and Bail after Leia runs off. Breha implies that their daughter is too much like Padmé. They may have been talking about Anakin, too, as the little princess has the same attributes as her biological father.
Bail was also somewhat aware of Padmé and Anakin’s relationship. This comes from the Senate Hostage Crisis, where his colleague had to hide her husband’s lightsaber up the sleeve of her dress.
Given that Breha doesn’t appear in The Clone Wars or Rebels, it can be assumed she was doing Queen things.
What Breha Would’ve Known About Padmé
Given her awareness of Leia’s parentage, Queen Breha likely knew Padmé personally. It’s also possible that she had heard about her from those who knew her. Bail probably told her things about his friend and how she had helped him protect Alderaan during the Clone Wars. She is also friendly with Obi-Wan, implying he might’ve had a conversation with her within the ten years between Leia’s birth and the adventure. Padmé could’ve come up during a discussion.
Padmé was a frequent visitor to Alderaan, as evident during The Clone Wars episode, Assassin. Since Breha is the ruler, she would’ve had to sign off on the conference or known about it, given her husband’s involvement.
