Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge, has become a style icon. Over time, her fashion choices have evolved. From her pre-marriage civilian getup to her Grace Kellyesque Alexander McQueen wedding dress, she is the definition of a fashionista. Her billion-pound looks have women running to their closest retail store to replicate her outfits. However, how does Kate’s down-to-earth compare to her sister-in-law, Meghan Markle?
Meghan’s fashion choices don’t compare to Catherine’s. She doesn’t believe in proper tailoring it appears, and she thinks the more expensive the outfit, the better it looks. Sorry to break it to you, but you don’t need to spend a fortune on clothing to look good.
We usually detest the idea of comparing royal women, but this one was too delicious to pass over.
One Billion Pounds
We’re doing this post due to an article by Grazia’s Natalie Hammond. The piece claims that Catherine, as a fashion influencer, is worth an alleged one billion pounds. If this intel is correct, it’s easy to see why.
Catherine’s wardrobe isn’t full of designer dresses. She tailors her fashion choices to fit what she is doing. Let’s look at an example. If Kate is shopping, she doesn’t wear a $5k pantsuit. Instead, she’ll dress down in a long-sleeved top and leggings finished with flat shoes.
Price Tag
Recently, Catherine has been seen wearing cheap earrings. That is what people love about her style. She isn’t afraid to go to everyday stores that we peasants shop at. One of her go-to brands is Zara. She also supports brands most of us wouldn’t have heard of. One of these is Holland Cooper, according to fashion blog Kate Middleton Style.
The reported billion-pound net worth is a massive feat for anyone. Catherine’s choices work for her but won’t always work for someone else. One of those people is her sister-in-law, Meghan.
We’ve all seen the headlines regarding Markle’s eye-watering maternity outfit bill. Francesca Wallace of Marie Claire Australia reported in 2019 that Meghan’s 75 outfits cost $898,000 in Australian currency. It was reported at the time that Markle spent seven times more on her wardrobe choices than Kate did.
Catherine’s maternity clothing for one pregnancy cost much less than a million pounds. Sure, it would’ve been expensive, at least her choices suited her.
Meghan’s Revenge Dress And Attempts To Dress Like A Regular Person
Okay, so it’s clear by Meghan randomly showing up at the Intrepid Gala in New York was to get back at Catherine for that spectacular gold dress. However, it didn’t go the way she thought. It was the not billion-pound look she had hoped it would be. The style of the dress didn’t suit her.
Moreover, the dress might’ve been her colour, but it didn’t fit her properly. We’re not body-shaming her. We’d never do that. The breast cups were pointed like something Lady Gaga, Madonna, or Katy Perry would wear in their music videos. Also, her spray tan wasn’t applied properly like she had done it herself.
However, Catherine’s gold dress that she wore to the James Bond premiere was an instant knockout! She looked incredible. The gown fit her like a glove and is easily one of her best looks to date. She hasn’t topped it since. Even Daniel Craig was taken back by it.
We wrote a while ago about how Meghan wasn’t a savvy shopper as she wore a dress just under $100 during a cameo on Harry’s interview with James Corden. A lot of people can’t even afford a hundred-dollar dress. Let alone a pair of shoes that expensive. To a rich person, this is a bargain.
Well-Fitting vs. Ill-Fitting
A net worth of a billion pounds as a fashion influencer can be accredited to how well something fits on the body. We’re going to go over a few examples with the two duchesses and see what fits better.
Before we begin, we have to point out that not all these outfits are similar. But, they will be close enough to make the comparison.
Notice how Meghan’s red pants suit hangs off her? The jacket sleeves are rolled up as it’s too big for her. Her pants are much too long, even with her wearing heels. When this photo came out, it reminded us of two things. The first was Joaquin Phoenix’s Joker. Meanwhile, the second was Michelle Obama at Joe Biden’s Inauguration.
Moving over to Catherine and you can see a huge difference with the fit. The pants are tailored and reach her ankles and don’t present a trip hazard. Also, her jacket sleeves don’t require being rolled up.
Again, we’re not body shaming Meghan when we say the black dress she wore to The Lion King premiere was too tight. Bear in mind, she was post-partum with Archie, but surely she would’ve been able to find a dress that style which would fit her. It suited her, but if it had been a size or two bigger or taken out, it would’ve looked better. Also, a load of fashion experts have said that Meghan’s body shape is harder to dress.
Catherine’s gold dress, meanwhile, fit her correctly because it was either custom made to her measurements or it was tailored and pulled in or let out.
