Why Meghan’s Use Of The Word “Spectacle” Has Pissed A Lot Of People Off

spectacle, special; mind

To say that the Windsor wedding of Harry and Meghan was a spectacle is a massive understatement…

The Oprah interview spelled the beginning of the end of Harry and Meghan’s relationship with the royal family even further. But, what really pissed the UK off is how the Duchess of Sussex used the word ‘spectacle’ to describe the public wedding which cost taxpayers millions of pounds. She went on to ‘reveal’ she and her prince had wed three days prior in a private backyard ceremony. Only, this has been debunked by a vicar saying that the Archbishop of Canterbury does not do private weddings. Not to mention, a venue has to be recognised by the Church of England. There also needs to be at least two witnesses.

What has the UK upset with Meghan’s use of the term ‘spectacle’ is that they allowed their hard earned cash to go into this multimillion pound wedding only to learn that there was a so-called ‘secret wedding’. We cannot say we blame them for feeling this way. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex had the option to have no titles and a private life, but no. They wanted to have their cake and eat it too. They walked away from a life that was as normal as could be, according to Andrew Morton, the biographer behind Diana’s biography in the Daily Mail.

Meghan doesn’t understand how the Church of England works and just assumed that the private vow exchange was a wedding. Also, given how Harry bows his head and just agrees with her makes us think he just wanted to appease her. Oprah bought it hook, line, and sinker without fact checking. If she and Harry had wanted a private ceremony, why didn’t they just ask? Though, we suspect this might having something to do with titles.

Titles Could Be The Reason For The Big Wedding

Now, we know that because a royal wedding is televised and huge, doesn’t mean you get titles. Look Princess Eugenie as an example. Her nupitals were televised but she wasn’t given a title by her grandmother. There’s a couple of reasons for this. One, she’s a blood princess so she wouldn’t be entitled to get a title anyway. Two, once she walked out of the church a married woman, she lost the right to be a Princess of York as she became Her Royal Highness Princess Eugenie, Mrs Jack Brooksbank. Finally, only grandsons of the monarch are given dukedoms upon marriage. Or even an Earldom as evident with Eugenie and Harry’s Uncle Edward who is the Earl of Wessex.

If Harry and Meghan had asked to have a private wedding and live privately, a dukedom would not have been given. Also, the ‘spectacle’ was one huge networking event for Markle to get to know certain A-listers. If you’ve been reading the blog for a while, you might remember the post on one of Harry’s godmothers speaking out about an encounter she had with the Clooneys.

Why would Harry and Meghan invite people to their wedding they don’t know or barely know? The only royal connection George Clooney has (that we know of) is through Jack Brooksbank, the husband of Princess Eugenie who works for his liquor company.

Did Meghan care about the little people? No. Did she give a damn about the homeless people she pushed of the street? Not a chance. All she wanted was to show the world she was like Princess Diana whom she is not like at all.
