Ahmed Best is back, baby! While we couldn’t be happier to have Kelleran Beq in mainstream Star Wars media, it raised questions over certain flashback elements.
So, let’s jump into the post. Please be warned that this article does contain spoilers for The Mandalorian: Chapter 20 – The Foundling.
1. Why Did Gorgu Have To Go With Master Beq?
When we jump into the flashback, the Jedi who are seen defending Grogu yell that he needs to get to Kelleran, but why?
What was interesting about this is that it seemed really urgent. While Order 66 was a dark period where the Jedi were slaughtered left, right and centre, why was Grogu so vital that he had to go with Beq?
Indeed other Jedi escaped the temple. If you look back at Obi-Wan Kenobi, we know that at least some made it out. Reva got out, but her friends were slaughtered. The flashback ended with its cliffhanger, so perhaps we could get more in the future.
2. Wait, Was Padmé Involved In Beq And Grogu’s Escape?
So, one of the flashback parts had Beq and Grogu escape Coruscant on a ship resembling Padmé’s. We must stress that Padmé had nothing to do with Beq and Grogu’s escape. We know where she was at this time.
In Revenge of the Sith, she was at her Coruscant apartment, oblivious to what had happened with Anakin falling to the Dark Side. When Anakin checked on her, he glossed over what had occurred. She didn’t know the full extent of it until Obi-Wan went to her looking for his former apprentice.
Ryan Arey of ScreenCrush mentioned in his breakdown video of the episode that Padmé’s apartment building might’ve appeared as Beq and Grogu zipped past. In Revenge of the Sith, Padmé tells Anakin that she could see the smoke from the apartment, despite the Jedi Temple being some distance away.
The ship could’ve appeared to any senator. Though the ship is associated with Naboo and the security captain was wearing armour similar to the guards in The Phantom Menace, the ship could’ve been sent by one of two people. The first is probably unlikely, and that’s Palpatine. Ryan mentioned, too, that the Sith Lord didn’t want Grogu harmed, so he sent the ship.
However, that’s not a strong argument, as he could’ve used any Jedi for their blood. He could’ve captured Yoda and used his blood. What makes Grogu so unique?
The second person would be Jar Jar, who happens to be a representative for Naboo, and Ahmed Best plays him. So that makes sense.
3. Was That Temuera Morrison’s Voice Or Dee Bradley Baker’s Voice As The Clones? What Clone Regiment Was It?
It is Temuera Morrison’s voice that is heard when the Clones speak. There is a reason for this, as Temuera was the face of the clones since they were created from the DNA of Jango Fett. Ryan mentions in his video that combining Dee and Temuera’s voices would be nice, given that they combine mediums with live-action and animation. Look at how they’ve bought Ahsoka Tano Saw Gerrera in from animation.
The clone regiment in the episode is the 501st, the battalion under Anakin’s command. They were the only sector of clones to storm the Jedi Temple. Also, you tell it’s the 501st as the markings on the armour are blue.
4. Who Are Kelleran’s “Friends”?
It’s unclear who Beq was referring to when he told Grogu he had friends who could help. Unfortunately, though, we don’t know who they are. Our best guess would be senators or surviving Jedi. Now before jumping to any conclusions, it wouldn’t be Ahsoka or any of the Jedi that the audience would be familiar with.
Just a quick recap on this. Ahsoka was on Mandalore then and likely trying to get off the planet.
Aayla Secura had been killed on Felucia. Plo Koon had been shot down during a space battle. Depa Billaba and Caleb Dume (future Kanan Jarrus) were also not on the planet. Her troops killed Billaba while her apprentice barely escaped. Kit Fisto and the other Jedi who had gone to confront Palpatine were also dead, and Mace Windu was also unlikely to have survived being thrown out a window.
If we had to guess, it might be Bail Organa, and there is a good argument for this. Bail was on Coruscant during Order 66, and he saw one of the Jedi Padawans get killed. So it’s possible that it was him that landed just as Beq and Grogu were leaving.
Another possibility might be Mon Mothma and the other senators involved with the Delegation of 2000. Though, for obvious reasons, it excludes Padmé, a member of this group.
5. Could One Of Beq’s Contacts Be Barriss Offee?
Our final question is whether Beq could have contact with Barriss Offee. It’s unclear.
So, for those who don’t know, Barriss Offee was the Padawan of Luminara Unduli, and she was a friend to Ahsoka until Offee framed Tano for terrorism. She also framed Asajj Ventress. Offee was locked away, but we haven’t heard about her since. Her last appearance onscreen was during The Clone Wars Season 5 finale a decade ago.
Dave Filoni said he has plans for her, but those statements were made a few years ago. There was speculation that the Seventh Sister in Star Wars Rebels would be Barriss, given they are the same species. There has even been a rumour in recent weeks that Barriss might pop up in the Ahsoka series.
In all honesty, Barriss is very low on our list of potential allies of Beq.
