Aquaman: King Of Atlantis Is As Quirky As Hell

If you want some mind-numbing children’s programming, look at Aquaman: King of Atlantis. Executive produced by Aquaman director James Wan, the three-part series follows Aquaman as he rules Atlantis. At the time of DC FanDome, only the first episode had aired. What’s more, the event gave a sneak peek at episode two, courtesy of IGN Movie Trailers on YouTube:

We haven’t had the chance to tune it, and honestly, it scares us. We loved Aquaman because James Wan made Arthur a believable character. However, this series appears to take the character back to joke territory. Cartoons can be significant and funny at the same time.

Also, we’re not bashing the animation style. It’s not our cup of tea. Though, it will please any kids that watch it as well as anyone who enjoys the art style. While we admire that the idea was to show what Aquaman can do while he’s King of Atlantis, but is the silliness worth it? Depends on who you ask.

When we say silliness, we mean the musical number in the sneak peek. Yeah, there are musical numbers in the trilogy. It wouldn’t be so bad if the story was serious in scope. So, just a little from what we got from the story that we can work out, Aquaman becomes king, loses his trident and throne to his brother, Ocean Master. To make it worse, Aquaman and Mera have to get the weapon back without everyone thinking the current “King” was murdered. The song called Talking to the Fish, apparently, is on Spotify. We did a check there actually is a 30-second single on Spotify.

Finally, Thomas Lennon, who has done a bunch of DC Comics projects including Supergirl and an animated Batman movie voices Vulko, the top advisor of Aquaman.
