Percy Jackson could not have gotten a better little brother than Tyson the Cyclops. Introduced in the second book, The Sea Monsters, Tyson was an orphan living on the streets until he was found and taken in by Percy’s second school as a project to help people experiencing homelessness.
Percy and Tyson became incredibly close, and even Sally, Percy’s mother, became attached to him. However, things take an exciting turn when Percy becomes a target of cannibals and has to go on the run. Annabeth shows up and has to save them, but she’s standoffish and unclear why. She also explains that Cyclopes often result from affairs between nymphs and gods.
Later, Percy learns that Annabeth had a bad experience with Cyclopes as a child. She also tells him to look at Tyson. For the first time since he met Tyson, he realises the big kid has one eye. However, it’s not until they get to Camp Half-Blood that he learns that Tyson is his younger paternal half-brother when Poseidon claims the Cyclops as his son.
Tyson, The Sweet Cyclops
Tyson, being only a young Cyclops, is a baby compared to some of the others Percy, Annabeth and Grover have met over their adventures. One of the Cyclops satyr-naps Grover, thinking he’s a female.
Percy becomes embarrassed to be seen around Tyson, who excitedly keeps telling people they are brothers. Finally, he realises that having a Cyclops as a little brother isn’t so bad. Even Annabeth comes around to him and later refers to him as a sweetheart because he is so unlike others.
Tyson later dates Ella the Harpy.
