Which Side Is Nico On?

Nico, Allegiance

Nico Di Angelo, the demigod son of Hades, is known to play both sides of the conflict; his choice of allegiance is often shadowy. So we thought we’d take a quick trip into the sides of the conflict Nico has played over the selection of his appearances in the Percy Jackson universe.

As the son of Hades, the only one of the big three gods not to have a throne on Mount Olympus, Nico inhabits much of his father’s inverse nature. He’s an outsider looking into a situation he cannot indeed be a part of.

One example is Nico’s place at Camp Half-Blood. When Nico arrived at Camp, there was no cabin for Hades. However, Percy ordered the Olympians and minor gods to acknowledge their demigod children to avoid another situation like that with Hermes’ son, Luke Castellan, prompting massive change.

Nico’s Fear And Cabin 13

A cabin was constructed for Hades at Camp Half-Blood, becoming the thirteenth cabin. Also, Nico didn’t remain at Camp a lot initially because of his fear that people would discover he was gay.

Jason Grace, one of the few people who discovered Nico’s “secret”, realised that Nico’s fear extends from the 1940s, the period in which he was born before he was trapped in the Lotus Hotel and Casino. Homosexuality wasn’t accepted then, and Nico believes people would judge him. However, upon adjusting to the current time period, he sees that people are more accepting of gay individuals like him. He eventually opens up, even telling Percy of his crush on him, much to his cousin’s surprise. Nico then enters a relationship with Will Solace, one of the sons of Apollo.

The Allegiance Pool

Nico’s long periods in the underworld have led him to create allegiances with some rather shady beings. One of these beings is Minos, who wants to exchange a soul for a soul. If anything, this is the reason why we wanted to cover this topic.

Minos wants to swap Daedalus’s soul for that of Nico’s sister, Bianca. When things suddenly go pear-shaped, Nico summons the spirit of Theseus to get his sister back.

In conclusion, it can be assumed that Nico often doesn’t think through his plans before executing them. Instead, he becomes laser-focused on one thing and doesn’t realise the issues until later, when it’s too late to fix them. Moreover, he is on the side of good.
