What Was Anakin Skywalker Like During The Clone Wars?

Anakin, Clone Wars

Anakin Skywalker was deemed as the poster boy of the Clone Wars. He was the Hero with no Fear and was seen as a class act. The 501st Clone Battalion greatly admired him, and they followed him without question. Captain Rex, the lead clone, was parallel to Anakin, though he knew when a line was crossed.

Skywalker’s Padawan, Ahsoka Tano, would tell Ezra Bridger years later that her master always looked out for his friends until the end. She spoke from experience as Anakin had often saved her life and vice versa. Even Rex mentioned to Kanan Jarrus that his general was one of a kind.

Anakin Skywalker: The Clone Wars Leader

Skywalker was an unorthodox leader, making him an influential and beloved leader. He put the lives of his soldiers above his own. He also treated his battalion of clones as human beings. This starkly contrasted with others like Pong Krell, who saw them as disposal.

In Anakin’s private life, he was a devoted husband to Padmé Amidala. However, he was often too protective, especially regarding her former boyfriend, Rush Clovis, who was still very much in love with her. His overprotectiveness scared his wife to the point she asked for a temporary timeout from their marriage. However, they reunited upon Clovis’ noble sacrifice when he saved Padmé’s life when a balcony collapsed.

The Clone Wars Weighed Down Anakin

The pressures of having to keep his marriage a secret weighed Anakin down. While he could not consult those closest to him, there was one person he trusted; Rex. However, Obi-Wan was well-aware that something was going on as he knew his former student a little well and saw his demeanour shift whenever Padmé was on a mission with them.

Speaking of shifting demeanours, even Ahsoka picked up that something wasn’t quite right regarding his master’s “friendship” with Padmé. During a mission, Ahsoka is sent as a third wheel by Obi-Wan, which annoys Anakin. Padmé is forced to break the ice and says it’s okay that the teenager is with them. When Anakin slips into protective mode, the padawan notices and voices it to Padmé later, promising to keep it to herself.
