Last Ronin Synopsis

In dystopian New York in the near future, a lone Ninja Turtle takes out thugs left and right. He is thrown out a window and is heavily injured. He manages to get back to his old lair where he attempts suicide, by attempting to stab himself in the gut like Japanese samurai used to.

Before he can do so, he blacks out. He finds himself being tended to by an old friend; April O’Neil, who has aged a lot since the last time the turtle, we learn is Michelangelo, has seen her. He also discovers she has a teenage daughter, Casey Marie Jones, named after her late father, Casey.

Casey Marie tells Mikey that her mother has told her stories about him and his brothers and how she had grown up admiring them.

Gobsmacked at the idea of April and Casey having a child, Mikey is given a run down of what happened. April and Casey had gotten engaged and got married. Casey had gone with Leonardo, the eldest of Mikey’s brothers, on a mission but they were both killed in an explosion.

April was injured in the explosion and while she was recovering, she was told she was pregnant. She had lost parts of her arm in the blast along with her husband, the father of her unborn child. When she gave birth, she named her daughter Casey, after the father she’d never know.

A Reluctant Teacher

Mikey is reluctant to take Casey Marie on as a student, but does so, knowing its the right thing to do. After all, April has always been like a sister to him and his late brothers and Master Splinter viewed April and Casey as his own.

We also learn throughout the story that Donatello and Splinter were killed in Japan on a mission while Raphael was murdered in combat by Karai. The loss of his father and brothers made Mikey go to a very dark place. He goes on his own spiritual mission, hoping to join his family in the afterlife, but fate isn’t finished with him yet.

Mikey reveals to the audience that the reason for the carnage is Oroku Hiroto, the son of Karai and the grandson of the original Shredder, Oroku Saki.

It’s also revealed that Karai actually survived her encounter with Raphael, but has been kept alive by machines.

April reveals to her daughter that she’s a mutant, which shocks Casey Marie. April explains that because she and Casey spent a lot of time with the Turtles and Splinter over the years, meaning they were both exposed to high levels of the ooze that mutated the turtles and their rat dad. She adds that she’s been meaning to tell Casey Marie for a while.

Confrontation Equals Death

After a lot of confronation with the Foot Clan, Mikey finally gets to confront the man who is responsible for the deaths of his family. After going to toe to toe with Hiroto, Mikey is fatally injured. He dies with Casey Marie and April at his side. Hiroto is also killed in the fight via elecrocution, ending the second Shredder’s reign. During the fight with the sole surviving Ninja Turtle, the second Shredder also commits matricide.

Some time later, it’s revealed that April and Casey Marie adopted four baby turtles who will become the new Ninja Turtles.

Mikey joins his brothers, father and Casey in the afterlife.
