Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

There’s Going To Be A New Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle Movie, But It Will Be Animated

TMNT

Turtles In The Half-Shell, Turtle Power!

Finally, Seth Rogan will be producing a family-friendly film! Okay, he’s done movies that aren’t adult comedies, but we did not expect him to bring back the TMNT franchise and animated!

The TMNT (or Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles) franchise has been a bit hit and miss on the big screen in recent years. According to Kellen Murack of Full Circle Cinema, the two Michael Bay-produced films starring Megan Fox weren’t exactly up to par with the films of the early 90s or (our favourite) 2007 CGI film, TMNT. Of course, let’s not forget the much-loved 2003 series. But, then, there’s our favourite, the 2012 series.

It will be interesting to see how Rogan deals with his iteration. It noted that he and his producing partner, Evan Goldberg, will be showing the turtles being, well, teenagers. The film’s villains will also receive spin-off films for Paramount+. That would be interesting to see as we’ve never had much focus on the antagonists before on screen. Yes, there have been television TMNT episodes, which have fleshed out some characters, but usually, it’s not a three-dimensional story.

The 2012 animated TMNT series showed how Shredder became Splinter’s enemy after the death of Splinter’s wife and the presumed death of his young daughter, Miwa. Later, it was revealed she was Shredder’s adoptive daughter, Karai.

Difference Is A Mixed Bag

Every iteration of the story is done, depending on the audience. Given that it’s Rogan and Goldberg, it will be interesting to see how they approach their version. Will there be throwbacks to previous versions? The one question we have is whether the film will learn from the mistakes of the recent live-action Bay movies.

Given that the new film is animated, we have hope. Paramount wouldn’t have greenlit a series of spin-offs if it didn’t learn.

Coming in August 2023.
