We know you’re probably tired of us talking about spoilt rich kid, Olivia Jade’s involvement in the College Admissions Scandal. This is an important topic so we’re going to address it.
The first thing we think of when it comes to Olivia Jade Giannulli is that she is a spoilt rich kid. For a year, we’ve followed her parents’ court trial for their involvement in the college admissions scandal and her own blunders when it comes to flaunting her privilege. What makes her unlike the other YouTubers who have gotten into scandals is that she is the daughter of two celebrities; actress Lori Loughlin and fashion designer, Mossimo Giannulli.
Like any spoilt rich kid, Olivia Jade lives in a bubble of privilege. She has everything she wants everything handed to her. No strings attached… until she got caught up in the college admissions scandal. The longer the news coverage ran, the more of a negative light the Loughlin-Giannulli family received. For months, Lori and Mossimo pleaded not guilty, believing what they did it was right. However, there was a catch. There was a possibility they could go to prison for up to forty years if they didn’t change their plea.
Because of the case, Olivia was not allowed to talk about it. She couldn’t mention anything in the two videos she uploaded to YouTube. Just prior to Christmas 2020, OJ appeared on the Red Table Talk to discuss her side of the story. However, there was a load of things that she omitted. Why this was done is unclear. Was it a PR stunt to make her appear in a better light? Who knows what they were actually trying to achieve but it was not a good look in the long run. People have been able to see through the ruse.
In this post, we’re going to talk about our views on Olivia Jade and her spoiled rich kid routine.
The ‘Spoilt Rich Kid’ Club Of Not Giving A Damn
Olivia Jade Giannulli is one of the many influencers who has a place in the spoilt rich kid club of not giving a damn. In a now-deleted video, OJ admitted at the age of either 18 or 19 that she didn’t care about school. It’s here she claimed to only be going to college for the game days and the parties.
Going over some of the compilations people have done of her videos, she comes off as entitled and dense. Months after her parents were arrested and charged in Operation: Varsity Blues, she found herself in hot water for this photo.
This was posted to her Instagram account where she tagged a bunch of media outlets. It has since been removed as it showed her in a bad light.
In her Red Table Talk interview in December 2020, there was absolutely no reference to this photo. Nor was there any reference to the fake rowing pictures or how much money Lori and Mossimo paid. However, she did mention she and her family know what they did was wrong.
Now, this brings us to whether we actually believe this. As we said in our first post on the Red Table Talk discussion, we’re not sure if what she said is one hundred per cent true. Her parents had a change of heart and a sudden one at that.
It’s been rumoured for a while that there’s a possibility that the Giannulli family were blacklisted for the University of Southern California given their role in the scandal. However, that has never been confirmed. Also, during her interview on RTT, Olivia said that once she ‘found out’ about her parents’ involvement, she and her sister never went back to USC.
The Influencer Backup
Is it any surprise that other insanely rich influencers would support someone like Olivia Jade? When the ‘flip the bird’ photo was uploaded to OJ’s Instagram account, a load of internet celebrities praised her for the pic. Not to mention, the comments were restricted to only people she followed.
When Olivia did her Red Table Talk interview and got criticised for it, Sofia Richie, the daughter of singer Lionel Richie and sister to Nicole Richie, jumped in to defend her friend. However, this lead to her getting called out for supporting white privilege as she too is wealthy.
It is the same pattern. If a wealthy person supports someone like them, they get called out. Should this happen? It depends on the situation. In the case of the College Admissions Scandal, anyone who defends a person for cheating their way into an Ivy League school is bound to be on the receiving end of criticism.
A lot of influencers know each other and collaborate or they did before COVID-19 struck. Anyway, a lot of influencers, regardless of their background support people like Olivia Jade because they have two things in common; money and a fanbase. If they come from privilege, they’re bound to defend it.
However, there are those celebrities who slammed anyone involved with the scam. A bunch of people including actress Selma Blair poked fun at the situation.
To all those celebrities who pointed out how wrong it is to cheat your way through life, we say good on them. It shows that people with money can do something good and not all fall down the greedy path.
Rogue Parents
Let’s move away from the spoilt rich kid known as Olivia Jade and move onto people like her parents and the others adults caught up in the scam. In short, the wealthy should be doing something constructive with their millions or billions of dollars. We can think of at least a dozen projects they could invest in.
In the regards to the parents, staff, and other so-called responsible adults involved with the scandal, they screwed up. Hugely. We could say something much nastier but we’re not going to fall down the dark path. At least, not this time.
There has been a ton of speculation about how Lori was ignorant to the idea of what she and her husband did is wrong. It should noted too that during Olivia’s Red Table Talk interview, she quite literally throws her father under the bus. She says that her mother was off filming a movie and didn’t have much involvement. This might explain why Lori got a shorter prison sentence then Mossimo.
We don’t believe that for a second. The reason is because of interviews Lori did in the past where she was insistent that her daughters go to college because she herself did not. Perhaps, Mossimo had a bit more pull in the scam because he had some influence over people who actually attended USC.
A quick note about Mossimo’s college experience. Despite what Olivia once said in an interview which we’ll get to in a moment, her father did attend college at USC, where his daughters would end up going, despite it being for a short time.
If we were to do a quick assessment of Mossimo and Lori’s actions, what they did was not ‘for their children’. It was for them to fulfil their college dream through their daughters.
Ignorance Is Not Actually Bless
It’s been speculated by a load of media outlets that it was Lori who was actually the one who orchestrated her family’s part in the scam. If this is true, then she had literally no idea what she was doing when it came to the possibility of prison time. However it now appears Olivia was right in how much of a role her mother played, given the two months she got.
Mossimo, in the meantime, got five months behind bars. This indicates that he had a more active role in the scheme.
The Loughlin-Giannulli couple can feign ignorance of doing what is best for their daughters all they like, but the outside world knows better. They got their girls involved thinking they would not get caught and thrown behind bars.
In the last day or so, it has been revealed as per the Guardian that Lori has gotten out of prison after serving her two months behind bars. Mossimo is scheduled to be released in April 2021. Now, whether she will go back to acting like Felicity Huffman will, is unclear.
Considering Lori put up a fight when she was charged, Hollywood might not want her back. Huffman, however, did not and admitted her guilt. Some people who get into trouble with the law in tinseltown sometimes bounce back. Look at Robert Downey Jr as an example. He had a drug problem and spent time in prison. He came back and now he’s one of the most popular actors in the world.
The difference is that Lori thought she didn’t do anything wrong and tried to plead innocence when she wasn’t. RDJ admitted he had a problem. We reported at the beginning of the year that Lori contacted a prison consultant but refused to reveal who she was.
Rich People Need To Be Held Accountable For Their Actions
When it comes to Olivia not just a spoilt rich kid but the child of celebrities, she needs to learn that speaking out against something almost two years after it happened is not a good look for her. If she cared even in the slightest, she would not have posted that photo of her dissing the media… you know the pic we’re talking about.
Olivia has lost very few fans due to this scandal. She said in her Red Table Talk that she reckons she deserves another chance, but doesn’t expect people to forgive her. She’s half right in that respect. A lot of people work hard to get into college. She just had the opportunity handed to her through illegal means and she flaunted it without a second thought.
Now, we know there are those who will probably be reading this and thinking, ‘Just let it go already. This whole situation is in the past.’ No, we won’t let it go. Rich people who walk around flaunting their wealth should be called out like everyone else. They are not gods amongst men.
We’re not afraid to speak out on this and others shouldn’t be either. There are a LOT of kids who would’ve loved to have those rowing spots on the USC rowing team that Olivia and Isabella stole. To get into the school at all is very hard. For the Giannulli girls to just ‘get in on a scholarship’ when they don’t even row is just wrong on so many levels.
Why Would Olivia Go On The Red Table Talk?
Finally, we wanted to address why Olivia chose to go on the Red Table Talk. If we’re honest, it appears that her appearance on the talk show might’ve been a PR stunt. Why? Well, in a desperate attempt to repair her image. This may even mean she could be returning to YouTube.
Let’s look at the facts, shall we? When the episode went live, it was a few weeks after Lori reported to prison. Also, this was not long after Mossimo did the same. All this was planned to line up with something far bigger.
Also, we need to ask ourselves as to why the Red Table Talk was chosen over a more well-known show of the same calibre like Ellen or The View. The ladies on RTT gave their views on this before the interview started. One of them (can’t remember which who) said it’s white privilege for Olivia to choose three black women to help her when the black community has been treated horribly.
Adrienne Banfield-Norris, Jada Pinkett-Smith’s mother said that Olivia is a spoilt rich kid who is going to be fine. She was deadset against the YouTuber being on the show. It has been speculated that Giannulli saw the effect Jordyn Woods’ interview had. She thought it would work out the same for her.
If we had to guess, Olivia’s Red Table Talk appearance had a mixed result. We thought there was a load of stuff that felt off with the whole thing. Did anyone else notice for those who watched it that Willow didn’t speak much at all? Perhaps, she didn’t have much to say on the matter.
For all the situation did, it made us ask more questions about the College Admissions Scandal.
