Is Prince William snubbing his cousins, Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie, but not allowing them to become working royals? According to GB News, the Prince of Wales has made it clear that his younger cousins, the daughter of Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson, will not be working royals.
I have two views on this that I wanted to share. While I don’t think highly of Prince Eugenie, I do of Princess Beatrice. Since the eldest of Prince Andrew’s daughters married her husband Edorado, she has shined a lot more than she did before. She is more likeable than her younger sister who is close their estranged cousin, Prince Harry and his wife Meghan Markle. However, no one truly knows where Beatrice stands on the issue.
I understand where Prince William sits on the matter if this is true. However, I can also see that Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie don’t deserve to be shut out because of who their father is. However, they’ve never been working royals, and they have full-time jobs.
Moreover, there has been the occasional time that both sisters have done engagements on behalf of their grandmother. Now that the Queen is no longer with us, it’s hard to tell where Charles stands with his nieces working. It tells that they haven’t been called in to replace Harry, Meghan, or even the Duke of Kent.
The King’s “Slimmed” Down Monarchy Doesn’t Work For A Big Nation
The United Kingdom is a prominent place, and the King’s plan to “slim” down the monarchy isn’t working. Royals must go so many places that they’ve been spread too thin. Most of the much older royals have retired from public life. The Duke of Kent is stepping down from many of his duties due to mobility issues. The Duke and Duchess of Gloucester are not far behind. This leaves the King and Queen, the Prince and Princess of Wales, the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh and Princess Anne.
While I disagree that Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie should be shut out of the chance to be working royals because of who their father is, I believe it should be up to them to decide, not Prince William. If they were given the option, it should be them that decides.
Also, William has much more power now than he had within the family. He’ll be king someday, and he’ll need to be the one who pulls people up and down within the family. Also, he can’t be expected to cater to everyone’s whims. Look at the dilemma he was put under with the Women’s World Cup. He was labelled sexist because he didn’t travel to Australia to see the Lionesses play. What people don’t realise is England is on the opposite side of the world to Australia. It would take William, who advocates for the environment, 20 hours to get there for a two hour match and than fly back, which is another 20 hours. He would be branded a hypocrite if he did either.
