The death of Scar in the original animated classic, The Lion King, serves as some epic karma for the character. From his jealousy of his brother and nephew for being heirs to the throne, Scar got his comeuppance thanks to his own sidekicks, the Hyenas.
The Lion King shows Scar falling from Pride Rock but surviving his fall only to be eaten to death by the Hyenas. However, retelling the story from the perspective of Timon and Pumbaa gives a bit more detail. According to The Lion King 1 1/2, Simba kicked his uncle over the edge of Pride Rock, a point that was not shown in the original film.
As per The Lion Guard television series, Scar was responsible for the deaths of his version of the Guard in his youth. Due to his crime, he lost the power of the Roar of the Elders. Furthermore, reducing him to the husk of a lion we meet in the original film.
It is also explained in The Lion King 2: Simba’s Pride that Scar had a darkness in his soul that couldn’t be redeemed, hence his death.
Scar’s Death Was Possible Thanks To Simba’s friends
The death of Scar was witnessed by Simba’s friends, Timon, Ma, Uncle Max and Pumbaa. They helped him defeat his uncle.
Scar underestimated the power of the hyenas. He saw them as bumbling idiots. However, they weren’t too pleased with how he spoke about him and decided to take things into their own paws. Ed seemed happy about that since he helped eat Scar after his death.
