If you’re a fan of Peter Jackson’s Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit film trilogies, you’ll remember Sir Ian Holm as the elderly version of Bilbo Baggins. He also appeared in Ridley Scott’s Alien as Ash and performed in several Shakespearean productions. He even voiced Chef Skinner in the Disney-Pixar film Ratatouille.
Ian Holm was married four times and had five children and at least one grandchild. One of his wives was Downton Abbey star Penelope Wilton. He retired from acting in 2014 after the release of The Hobbit: Battle of the Five Armies, the last film he completed in his lifetime.
