Where is the rebel alliance at the time of Obi-Wan Kenobi? – In the ten years since Revenge of the Sith, the galaxy has become hell. Literally. As the Empire continues its rigorous campaign of bigotry and hostile takeovers, the rebel alliance is slowly coming together though it will be a few years more before it starts taking shape on a larger scale.
Since we’re continuing with our Obi-Wan Kenobi coverage in the lead up to the show’s premiere on May 27th, we thought we’d cover one thing many people will want to know. How far along is the rebel alliance when the series takes place? Well, that’s what we’re here to discuss.
Just a heads up before we start, we’ll only be going over stuff we’ve heard about. Moreover, this post will not cover comics, games, and books.
What’s Happening With The Rebel Alliance?
Based on everything we know that occurs during this time from other screen media, the rebel alliance is all but non-existent. However, there are tiny pockets of resistance that do what they can to fight back. Unfortunately, Phoenix Squadron doesn’t exist at this point in the timeline and won’t for at least another five years.
Leia would not be involved with the beginning of the rebellion as she was too young as she is ten years old. However, we know that Bail Organa, her adoptive father, was gathering forces. Sometime during this time, Bail would recruit Ahsoka Tano, the former Padawan of his daughter’s biological father, Anakin Skywalker.
Tano would serve Organa under the codename of Fulcrum, which was co-created by Anakin during the Clone Wars. The codename became a title during the Imperial era leading to multiple people using it at different times. One of these people was Cassian Andor. Even Alexsandr Kallus used it when he deserted the Empire. Think of it as a mantle passed down like Black Widow was in the MCU as dozens of women held the same mantle simultaneously.
The Fulcrum agents would pass intelligence over to the growing rebellion and would provide valuable.
Will We See Members Of The Growing Rebel Alliance?
It’s unclear whether we’ll see any members of the rebel alliance, though it has been rumoured Bail Organa and/or Leia will appear. It’s rumoured that Leia will be a focal point in the story, which may be why Obi-Wan leaves Tatooine. We’ll explore this in another post. Anyway, there has been no confirmation whether this is the case.
There might be references to Mon Mothma as Bail and Mon worked together to fight against the Empire. They were also friends and colleagues of Padmé, so who knows what’s going to happen there.
