The Bold And The Beautiful: Why Killing Off Finn Is Sending The Show Backwards

Finn

It might just be a television show, but never have I experienced such displeasure in a storyline – When Doctor Finn was introduced as a love interest for Steffy in 2020, never have I been happier. Moreover, this is the same show with repeated dialogue every episode. The Bold and the Beautiful had finally decided to stop Liam from waffling and had Steffy move on with someone who put her first.

Finn was hot, sexy, and everything Liam wasn’t. No offence to Scott Clifton. He’s only doing a job. It was a relief until Steffy jumped into bed with both Liam and Finn (at separate times) and got pregnant. When I watched the story, I felt that Liam would be the father, and it would be back to square one. I did a couple of posts on this. Though, never could I have imagined I would be surprised by a show that pushed the baby swap storyline for nine straight months with the same dialogue day in, day out. I certainly wasn’t the only one who wanted to pull my hair out of its absurdity.

Moving to what’s happening currently, the death of Finn at the hands of his biological mother, Sheila Carter, sets the show backward.

Just as we were moving in a direction where we’d barely escaped the Steffy/Liam/Hope triangle, we’re being pulled back into it. I’ve addressed this before, but I feel there’s more to it.

Finn And The Evil Mother Incarnate

When it came out that Finn’s birth mother was someone we all knew, I thought of all the women on the show. Not once did I think of Sheila. Instead, I imagined Brooke or Donna. Even Quinn or Pam could’ve been his mother. But, God, was I wrong!

I give total kudos to the fabulous work Kimberlin Brown does as Sheila. No one can play the role in the way she does. Anyway, having known for years the type of person the character is, it was only a matter of waiting for her to become obsessive over Finn and Hayes. When I started watching the show, my first storyline with her was when she attempted to make a play for Eric but was prevented by Quinn.

The more access she had, the more clingy and obsessive she became. I’ve seen this happen before in other shows and films, so it was nothing new. Shelia is NEVER going to change her spots. It’s almost a given whenever she shows up, something terrible happens. If I had to pick between her and Deacon to get stranded on a desert island with, I’d choose Deacon, hands down. Sheila would pull a “survival of the fittest” card. Anyway, This is where I believe the story was never going to change.

Steffy’s Treatment Might Result In Her Getting Liam Back?

Having Finn out of the picture would push the drama for the Forresters and Logans to increase tenfold. One example of this is an alleged spoiler for next week where Ridge and Taylor clash with Brooke and Hope over how they should deal with Steffy’s recovery. The last thing I want to happen is that Steffy ends up with amnesia and believes she’s still married to Liam.

It will not surprise me if this is the story’s direction. I didn’t come up with this theory. HopeBethSpencer on Instagram posted the other day that this may be how the story plays out. When Steffy woke up in today’s episode, she was confused as to why she was there. She barely recognised her parents and brother, but she did recognise Sheila.

What I hope doesn’t happen is that Steffy doesn’t get her memories back and believes Liam will forever be hers. Photos of Finn mightn’t jog any memories. Jacqui (Steffy) said that there would be numerous twists and turns. One of those we saw across the last couple of episodes. Taylor almost dying after falling off the hospital’s roof, and Sheila saving her is the perfect redemption arc in a way. I did not see that one coming. From a Behind-the-Scenes perspective, it was one of the worst VFX shots I’ve ever seen. I can, however, excuse it, as B&B isn’t known for its CGI.

Finn And His Limited Connection To Existing Families

When Finn first arrived on the scene during Steffy’s opioid addiction storyline, he was a breath of fresh air. At the time, he had no connections to the other families in the show. However, he quickly became a favourite because he was the anti-Liam. Also, he didn’t jump back and forth between women and didn’t have a controversial past or lineage.

He also shed light on being adopted just as Zende did when he returned a couple of years ago. However, unlike the Forrester designer, Finn learned his adoptive father was his biological father and that Jack had cheated on his wife with Sheila. It seems simple, right?

In an everyday sense, it does. However, it makes the character seem more like a figment of Steffy’s imagination. With her waking up and potentially forgetting his existence, could she think Finn was her way of getting over Liam?
