Will Stargirl Season 3’s Ratings End Its Running Streak?

There has been some worry over the fate of DC’s Stargirl since before the sale of The CW. We weren’t going to write about this, but given the massive question mark and the confusion, we thought we’d explain further. Nexstar bought the network, which owns other CW properties across the US. We’ve discussed the mess at Warner Brothers Discovery a couple of times, but we wanted to address the ratings of Stargirl.

According to TV Line, the ratings for Season 3’s premiere were slightly down from the freshman finale, which was 574k. The average for the second season was 590k. These are just the live numbers. However, there are other factors that The CW has to address with the ratings. The live numbers are totalled with the streaming figures. Other numbers from Binge (in Australia), HBO Max, Foxtel Now (in Australia) and other streaming services outside the US also factor in.

Now, the ratings for the premiere were 515k, though Bam! Smack! Pow! and its associated The CW Spiral podcast have rounded this figure to 520k. Currently, it is too early to determine what the final numbers were for the premiere.

Now, we need to point out that because of the purchase of The CW by Nexstar, the ratings might be slightly off-kilter. This is to be expected. We aren’t expecing to hear any news for about a month. We are judging this by what happened with Tom Swift.

The numbers you see below are the ones for Tom Swift.

As you can see, the ratings didn’t go up very much. They decreased. We believe the series was rushed, which is why it got cut quickly. The series started filming in January 2022. It went to air about four months later.

Slow And Steady Production

With Stargirl, we’re between seasons for at least ten months before seeing a new one. This is due to VFX and other factors. Unfortunately, Tom Swift didn’t have this luxury. So, this brings us to Nancy Drew, which was the show Tom Swift was spun-off from.

The numbers above are for Nancy Drew’s first three seasons. As you can see, the ratings have gone down, but not enough to have it cancelled.

The numbers below are for Stargirl as they stand currently.

AirricksReloaded on YouTube has said that Stargirl is likely safe as The CW still intends to do its signature shows, but not as many. Now, with The Flash ending next year and Gotham Knights coming in, there is no guarantee that the new show will be a success. However, Superman & Lois will be returning for its third season. It might be the only DC show remaining once The Flash ends and if Gotham Knights and Stargirl are cut.

Shawn McBee said on the Stargirl Aftershow podcast that there is a plan for Season 4 as he is their lore keeper, so to speak. A final note is that Stargirl was on the top of ratings for The CW in its Wednesday timeslot. This is a positive. We need to get those numbers up, so please, everyone. Watch the show on The CW app, Binge, Foxtel, HBO Max, Amazon Prime etc. It’s now a fight to save our show.
