Stargirl: What Is Going On With Rick And Cameron?

Rick

What the HELL is going on with Rick and Cameron in Stargirl Season 3? – As we get closer to the release date for Stargirl Season 3, our friends at Bam! Smack! Pow! have posted an interesting photo to their Twitter account. The picture is from Hunter Sansone, who plays Cameron Mahkent in the superhero series. In it, he’s with co-star Cameron Gellman who plays Rick Tyler/Hourman II.

Hunter has makeup on which simulates cuts and bruises. So, what’s going on there?

In the series so far, the pair have shared almost no screentime, except for one short scene during Season 2 where it looks like they want to kill each other. So, what could be going on here? Given the subtitle for Season 3 is Frenemies, it would make sense. After all, we got some hints at the pair-ups for the frenemies last season.

The Crocks will be frenemies with the Whitmore-Dugans, and Courtney and Yolanda will have to deal with Cindy. Though, the frenemy territory will be primarily aimed at Yolanda and Cindy. So, where does that put everyone else on the JSA? Well, Mike could fall into the frenemy category with Cameron due to what happened with Jordan, and this may end up where Rick comes into play.

Rick sees the JSA and the Whitmore-Dugans as his family, his true family, who will always have his back. The girls are his sisters, and Mike is like his little brother. Barbara and Pat have stepped up to be parental figures to him. In the short scene, he was in with Cameron; there was tension, but why?

Rick Is Protective

It’s no secret that Rick is incredibly protective of his family, and he detests anyone who wants to do them harm. Unfortunately, he sometimes goes a bit overboard. While it is understandable, given his past and what happened to his parents, we need to ask. Will he somehow come between Cameron and Courtney? Could this be the frenemies part that appears to be teased?

There is no correct answer, at least not yet.

As we’ve said, Rick will protect his family, regardless if his target hasn’t done anything wrong and is just associated with the true antagonist. Moreover, this could be why Rick hates Cameron because Jordan was Icicle.

Cameron can’t help who his father is or who his grandparents are. So that brings us to our next thought.

Becoming Icicle Junior

We’ve known for a while that Cameron has started coming into his powers. We got a tease of this in Season 1. During Season 2, we get this a couple more times, including a possible snapshot of his powerset during the ninth episode.

Mike’s worst fear was having Cameron kill him for his role in Jordan’s death. Eclipso used this to his advantage and conjured himself into Cameron’s form to taunt the teenager. The manifestation of Cameron had powers, but not on the level Jordan had. He couldn’t turn himself into a full-on ice being like his father could. He also displayed an icy version of telekinesis when he tries to suffocate Mike.

Eclipso’s vision of Cameron having these powers doesn’t mean it’s an accurate interpretation of what Cameron might develop.

Given Cameron will be told by his grandparents that he has powers and who his father was (or who they claim he was), it will be a tug-o-war for him. Will he choose to go after those responsible for his dad’s death? Or will he fight the temptation of evil? It could go either way, as the comics depicted him as both good and evil. Though, he’s commonly known for being an ice villain.

A Rick And Cameron Team Up?

Now, this last part could be possible. We’ve spoken about Rick’s protectiveness of his true family and Cameron’s potential powerset. Could it be possible that they end up teaming up for some reason? We’d have to say, HELL. To. The. YES! It would be fascinating to see.

Given Mister Bones and potentially Todd Rice will be villains this coming season, the JSA will need all the help they can get.

Also, Courtney may discover that Cameron has inherited his father’s powers and can’t decide what to do. But if push comes to shove, she may need his help. Or another idea could be Courtney gets in trouble, and the only person who can assist is Cameron, and it’s Rick that has to recruit him.

There are so many possibilities. We’re getting giddy with the possibilities!
