LeBron James Struggles To Be A Dad To His Son In The First Trailer For Space Jam: A New Legacy… And Zendaya Joins The Voice Cast

LeBron

Look out, Tune Squad. Here Comes LeBron James.

After a few years of delays, we’re getting a look at the upcoming Space Jam: A New Legacy. The movie, which stars LeBron James, sees him struggle to be a dad to his fictional son, Dom. After the boy disappears, the NBA legend finds himself in an AI reality with the evil AI-Rhythm played by Marvel Cinematic Universe veteran Don Cheadle.

LeBron finds himself in the world of the Looney Tunes, where he joins forces with Bugs Bunny. Long the way, Lola Bunny and co joins them to get Dom back. He is encouraged by his wife Kamiyah (the fictional version of his IRL spouse, Savannah), played by Star Trek: Discovery‘s Sonequa Martin-Green. Here’s a look at the trailer:

Welcome To The Tune Squad, Zendaya!

In the last 24 hours, we got a new piece of information from Entertainment Weekly regarding the film’s voice cast. They’ve revealed that Emmy Award Winner and another MCU veteran, Michelle Jones “MJ” herself, actress Zendaya had been cast as Lola Bunny.

The film will introduce a “fully-realised” version of Lola that is not done in the original Space Jam. It notes she has a ‘cartoon’ feel.

Lola’s portrayal will have a “cartoon-feel” that did not come across in the original film. She will also not sport a crop top like in the OG Space Jam

According to Lawrence’s interview with the film’s director, Malcolm D. Lee, the portrayal of Lola in the first movie is not “politically correct”. She also will be “fully realised”. To those wondering what that means, she is not sexualised and is allowed to be a female cartoon character. Like her male counterparts, she will wear the same uniform with no modifications.

When we meet Lola, she will be in training on Themsyscira with Wonder Woman.

Warner Brothers Properties Go Wild

The trailer drops a slew of cameos from other Warner Brothers properties, which LeBron will encounter. Some of these include Fred Flinstone, Yogi Bear and Boo Boo.

Space Jam became a staple for us when we were at school. Whenever rainy Wednesdays occurred, we’d watch a movie in the school hall. The original movie was one of two. Film number two was Flubber.

Finally, Space Jam: A New Legacy is the first time the Looney Tunes have appeared on the big screen since 2003’s Looney Tunes: Back in Action.
